Hi All, Hope the holidays were good to you! Time is flying by here....rumor has it the "advance party" will be leaving mid-March..maybe home by the first of April!!! Yeah!!
It rained this morning..from about 0200 til 0600..then at 10:30 am it snowed for about 5 minutes. Crazy weather in the desert! It was overcast all day....then about 4:30pm, the sun popped out just in time for another beautiful sunset. Oh! the wind has been blowing all day, by 3:00pm you could never tell it rained! Dry as a bone!!!
The nighttime temps are 30 or below...daytime mid-50's The moon is a crescent..and at 0530 in the morning it's in the "eastern" sky...real low like it's setting. What's up with that? How can the sun and the moon be on the eastern horizon, at the same time???
Oh! If you stand at my hooch, point a compass North, at an azimuth of 313 degrees and a distance of 10,029 kilometers, as the crow flies, you'll find Midlothian, Virgina. Isn't technology grand???? (lol)
Combat stress is taking it's toll on us! No one is getting a good nights sleep. Between the "noise" and the "unknown" it's hard to stay asleep. Noise = track vehicles, helicopters, jets, artillery (outgoing), rockets (incoming), firefights, oh, and lets not forget the chanting that "blares" from the mosques at all hours of the day and night. Unknown = incoming, missions, when will we be leaving, duty rosters that constantly change, etc; It's so hard to explain.....!!! We thought they were just kidding with us back in California when they told us about this...guess not!!!! Just the slam of a door is enough to make us "hit the dirt".
Mail is so slow (still)...some guys still haven't gotten christmas mail....if we do leave out of here on schedule, then it might be a good idea to NOT mail anything after 31 January....it's a good possibility I won;t get it!!
Morale is still an issue....seems like no one (in command) is concerned! I've been able to run 3 miles every other day...doing a leisurely 10 minute mile pace...would like to go more....looking at doing 6 miles soon! Alot of that depends on "safety"...although, the Army has placed bunkers (big concrete culverts) periodically along the "outer loop"...just have to be careful...one section is within sniper range. Physical exercise helps relieve the stress! Unfortunately, it's not "mandatory", due to the threat levels!! So some guys don;t do anything......
Despite all the negativity.....we are making a difference by being here!! On "both" fronts. It's an experience I'll never forget!
Thanks again for all the sacrifces you are making!!! Without "YOU"....none of this would be possible. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, love and support, too!
My thoughts and prayers are with you!!!
Take care!
God Bless
Larry
Thanks for passing that along. Tell Larry that he and all those he represents are on our minds, in our heart and in our prayers.
Excellent!
Give him our wishes, and let him know we're still backing him up.
Here's to him getting back here safely and soon.
I'm glad you pinged me to it.
Give your friend my best.
Let's hope he gets home soon.
-good times, G.J.P.(Jr.)
