The real issue here is whether such so-called Federally-funded disaster relief is Constitutional. And the answer is very clear: No, it is not. There isnt the slightest Constitutional authority for Federal tax dollars to be spent for disaster relief. Thus, any such expenditure of Federal tax dollars for disaster relief --- foreign or domestic --- is illegal, unlawful.

>I answer to a higher authority who asks me to have a heart of a servant<
Please see my post#200.
I answer to my Triune God. He doesn't require me to have the mind of an ape, nor the tongue of an asp.
He's right in that it's not actually constitutional, but it's become unfashionable to care.
You intentionally changed the context. That's dishonest.
Well, last week on some threads when it was posted, people were saying that in his biography, the authors says that Crockett bragged about taking bribes while he was a politician.
I just couldn't understand why they were lecturing us with words from a -....well........you know, less than honest guy.

Not true. The army and navy are listed, but NOT an air force. That's why I was careful to say air force. The words "armed forces" aren't in there. If you want to be a strict constructionist, you have to stick to it and not fudge language when it suits you.
Thanks for the info on the press conf.
Wow - what a take down.
These ladies must have been very special. However, more men than my father who fought in WWII have said exactly the same things that he did about the Red Cross and they, like him, gave only their blood to the Red Cross during their lifetimes.
I have to agree with not understanding this fixation on Davey Crockett. I never realized he was such an authority on Constituional law, or for that matter, charity. Isn't this like the third or fourth thread from this point of view? I don't think you can argue with anyone who has such a narrow and simplistic view of anything.
Again, I basically agree with you here. But that's only peripheral to what I was mainly discussing. Thanks for the thoughts, though.
You're welcome.
In any case, the govermnent taking action doesn't usurp anyone's right to give charity, anyway. It's not like the Federal aid bars any individual aid.
Some people would like to donate money but because of the high taxes they had extracted from them they are unable to donate any or as much as they would like. People have the right to donate money, if, they have it instead of the government taking it.
Well, thank our lucky stars we have smart people like you to come here and inform us.
NOT.
You are quibbling about "ask" and "tell." I noticed it never occurred to you that the rest of us didn't need to be ask or told, we just did it.
Of course, that's what people who have real ideas do: they do; they don't pontificate on internet bulletin boards about what "might be."
By the time you get around to "editing" your posts, we're done.
OK, you are right...call the air force a division of the navy...now let me watch the Packer game in peace. I know we strict-constructionists have lost the arguement, take whatever money I have that you need and I promise I'll try to limit my complaining.
What off the wall crapola! Some posters here are sounding like the other twin of DU'ers. As I said earlier - there are other ways to fight the war on terror - some work, some don't - but you gotta try for our children's future sake. I suppose you think my children are your enemies also since I don't think quite like you do.
I don't hate government, Howlin...I just feel better when it's not around. I'm not against this aid stuff, and have not commented on it. I am against the marxist programs that were introduced decades ago. Are you not?
Happy New Year.

----- I believe there is something more fundamental to it..but let's say you are right..So what other country would you like that power to go to?..you know all the world leaders are jockeying for it. Me thinks me sees a few virgins in your future if you don't choose the US. Coose your world leader now or find yourself a nice rug.
Oh...self-esteem!!! That's what's important, by golly! Why should we help those starving peope who have lost everything if we can't increase our self-esteem?
When you made a donation to the tsunami victims did you feel good or bad about your act of donating? 'Nuf said.
Sheesh! :-(
United States Constitution, Article I, Section 9, Clause 7 -- No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time.
There's the mechanism provided by the Constitution giving the Feds the power to appropriate public monies for whatever reasons Congress may see fit.
Everything beyond this is meaningless gibberish debating whether you like foreign aid or not.
Not by me though. I'm asking that the Federal Authorities be set to watch you. Something you are doing serves some valid national interest to watch, I am sure. And since our money purse is bottomless, why not?
After all nothing in the Constitution prevents me from asking, and to some around here, even if I were President, nothing stops me from spending some magical "discretionary" pile of federal money on sending an aircraft carrier and battle group over to your vicinity to keep you and yours under 24/7 combat patrol surveilance. Let fly the drones of whimsy!
Of course, if a President did so, it would immediately be scorned and even refused as an order. Or at least lollygagged in obedience.
Everybody wants to help the tsunami victims! That is a given. Humans are not callous. A few yes. It takes training to be so callous. Such training is rare to be found in America if at all.
What is the way to help?
Throwing money at the problem may soundbite and feel *good* but it ALWAYS causes later harm. It's like plowing up and seeing in ground full of weeds. The crop starts up as seedlings and is soon overrun by weeds. Worse than a waste!
The weeds not only suppress the crop -- they establish themselves better in that ground. It will take far work to remove them than if the ground was prepared right from the start -- that the weeds were first erradicated.
You follow a plan, you abide old learned wisdom. For us that IS the Constitution, the process of legislative control of the purse. And not unlimited control -- but only that expressly granted in the Constitution.
Wake yourself up.
