Confederate States Of America (2005)
Yahoo Movies ^ | 12/31/04 | Me

Posted on 12/31/2004 2:21:30 PM PST by Caipirabob

What's wrong about this photo? Or if you're a true-born Southerner, what's right?

While scanning through some of the up and coming movies in 2005, I ran across this intriguing title; "CSA: Confederate States of America (2005)". It's an "alternate universe" take on what would the country be like had the South won the civil war.

Stars with bars:

Suffice to say anything from Hollywood on this topic is sure to to bring about all sorts of controversial ideas and discussions. I was surprised that they are approaching such subject matter, and I'm more than a little interested.

Some things are better left dead in the past:

For myself, I was more than pleased with the homage paid to General "Stonewall" Jackson in Turner's "Gods and Generals". Like him, I should have like to believe that the South would have been compelled to end slavery out of Christian dignity rather than continue to enslave their brothers of the freedom that belong equally to all men. Obviously it didn't happen that way.

Would I fight for a South that believed in Slavery today? I have to ask first, would I know any better back then? I don't know. I honestly don't know. My pride for my South and my heritage would have most likely doomed me as it did so many others. I won't skirt the issue, in all likelyhood, slavery may have been an afterthought. Had they been the staple of what I considered property, I possibly would have already been past the point of moral struggle on the point and preparing to kill Northern invaders.

Compelling story or KKK wet dream?:

So what do I feel about this? The photo above nearly brings me to tears, as I highly respect Abraham Lincoln. I don't care if they kick me out of the South. Imagine if GW was in prayer over what to do about a seperatist leftist California. That's how I imagine Lincoln. A great man. I wonder sometimes what my family would have been like today. How many more of us would there be? Would we have held onto the property and prosperity that sustained them before the war? Would I have double the amount of family in the area? How many would I have had to cook for last week for Christmas? Would I have needed to make more "Pate De Fois Gras"?

Well, dunno about that either. Depending on what the previous for this movie are like, I may or may not see it. If they portray it as the United Confederacy of the KKK I won't be attending.

This generation of our clan speaks some 5 languages in addition to English, those being of recent immigrants to this nation. All of them are good Americans. I believe the south would have succombed to the same forces that affected the North. Immigration, war, economics and other huma forces that have changed the map of the world since history began.

Whatever. At least in this alternate universe, it's safe for me to believe that we would have grown to be the benevolent and humane South that I know it is in my heart. I can believe that slavery would have died shortly before or after that lost victory. I can believe that Southern gentlemen would have served the world as the model for behavior. In my alternate universe, it's ok that Spock has a beard. It's my alternate universe after all, it can be what I want.

At any rate, I lived up North for many years. Wonderful people and difficult people. I will always sing their praises as a land full of beautiful Italian girls, maple syrup and Birch beer. My uncle ribbed us once before we left on how we were going up North to live "with all the Yankees". Afterwards I always refered to him as royalty. He is, really. He's "King of the Rednecks". I suppose I'm his court jester.

So what do you think of this movie?

Since this particular poster is obviously pursuing the activities he has been previously enjoined against and since in doing so he continues to spin a web of lies protesting his innocence, I ask simply that if you wish to respond to his persistent pinging of you to this thread, please contact me by freepmail as you deem it necessary. I would be more than happy to detail the nature and location of his unprovoked harassment and and stalking behavior as well as the dates and nature of the prior injunctions against him, of which he is now in direct violation. Thanks

He seems not to know that you're aware of the very same Great January Censure that he is now operating in violation of...or his problem of being a really bad liar is simply showing through again, just like he thought nobody would ever find all those dissents and extraneous legal documents he tried to pass off as court rulings!

Annoying-discovery bump. The truth hurts, don' it?

I want to go back and find about that pitched battle out there at Fort Davis!!

Believe me, if I were a moderator or had some inordinate pull with them, you wouldn't be here to recieve this post.

Thank you for your candid expression of view.

You're on bozo filter. Adios.

He exposed information about himself and had several of his own hot-headed post pulled

It's truly amazing how many lies he churns out in such a small amount of space.

The nuked posts in question were located here:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-backroom/1311758/posts?page=1565#1565

If memory serves me correctly, the stalker posts he made were 1566 and 67. 1568 was my response to one of those stalker posts, which I subsequently asked them to remove because it quoted part of Cap'n Crunch's stalker messages. Of course those pulled posts were also his very last appearance on this forum for the next month.

Well, whatever he's operating in violation of, it isn't going to be much of a problem for me anymore. Recommend you reset your killfile filter to include the value "capitan_refugio".

Meanwhile, the real world calls.

I went back and looked at the posts you indicated. Most had of course been pulled.

I noticed, however, my own hypothetical testing the idea that the Confederacy was sufficiently cornered by the Northern States unified behind the Republican banner to be unable in future to defend itself, in post #1230, and reiterated after someone tried to blow it off by my #1605, so we may now consider the issue to have been conceded. Secession in 1860 and 1861 was not taken for "light and transitory causes".

It's also interesting to note, as one scrolls back, that M. Espinola posted a contemporary lithograph in his #1578 of Lincoln being assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. The cause, as I remember, of bushpilot's banishment a few days later.

Of course, Espinola posted it in support of a point he was making.

There's your authoritative text, right there, which you ought to consult before making rash attributions of responsibility. Pilate handed Jesus over to the priest-led mob, who decided his fate

I'm not in the habit of arguing about Bible passages with people [much less those in untranslated Latin], and certainly not with anyone as egotistical and unremittingly condescending as you.

However, I will refer you to John Chapter 19 for my understanding of Pilate's responsibility for Christ's death sentence.

19:15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

19:16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.

Let me add that I find your acceptance of Pilate's attempt to clean his hands of Christ's death and your impassioned defense of his innocence of responsibility in the matter, an interesting insight to your world view.

Could it be you prefer Israel's enemies like those below:

Not at all, Revrund Al. I do, however, have little doubt that you look approvingly on the following...

And what are you gonna do about it, Jesse Jackson? Complain to the moderators that your buddy Al Sharpton's disrespect for the American flag is part of a "legitimate political organization"?

You're out of control. You need to stop before you do something you'll regret.

Doncha just love the ominous threat messages these Wlat Brigade types banter about whenever something unpleasant about any of them comes to light? They act as if they can slime the thread with garbage, flames, and personal smears all day absent any repercussion, but the second somebody returns the favor onto any one of them they go blustering about with threats and whining about how they're gonna "ban" all of us and create "KIAs" as they now call it!
