Mollie D Panther is settling in fine.

I have just about gotten rid of the case of ringworm she came with.
I have also just about gotten rid of the case of ringworm she gave me :(
Hard to be sure - fungi are pernicious and persistent.

in terms of her physical development:
she was 4.9lbs a month ago. I expect she is almost twice that now.
All of her adult teeth are coming in. the scissoring fangs are all set and perfectly meshed.
Her eyes remain orange.

behavior: stil acts like a rubberband on amphetamines.
Very affectionate when not bouncing all over the place.
Actually, very affectionate even when she IS bouncing all over the place.

Did the cockatiel sing during his/her stay?

They sing oh so beautifully.

I used to own one. Her name was Sunshine for the orange spots on her sides of her face. She died in my hands. I now have two parakeets, one male and one female.

Cockatiels are very gregarious and sing beautifully.

I know people who think they sing beautifully after a few cocaktiels.

"I'm thinking I might use leftover Christmas money to get an aquarium...maybe...I'm still looking into it. (Plus I have to buy my books first.)"

Er...

Were I in your shoes, I would buy the aquarium and the stuff to make it work, as well as read up on the care and feeding of whichever fish I wanted in it.

My next few paychecks would be used to stock it, and I would enjoy it in the meantime. The air filters and pumps have very soothing sounds, and it makes a great night light!

Bettas are a pretty fish. I thought about getting one, but I heard that they tend to be more work than just goldfish. Plus, I would like to have more than just one in a container.

I am so glad she is settling in! I am also glad that she has helped your grief over Jones. I'm sure she will be a wonderful companion for you.

Hobbes has only now begun to purr when I pet her...it has taken her a long time to do that...I think she just didn't know how.

Give Mollie a hug from me and tell her she is very special because she has you as her person!

No, I don't remember her singing. The first day, she sat in a box and swayed, and we were afraid she would die. Then my husband bought her a cage, and she settled in. We kept the cage on a table in the kitchen. If it was quiet and nobody was in there, she would twitter melodically to herself, but I didn't process it as "singing."

If it was busy, she would twirp and squawk. And if the cat walked through the room, she would flap and shriek, so obviously she'd lived somewhere that she'd been exposed to a cat!

We weren't sure of the sex, so we called "him" Henry. Then we got a book from the library and decided it was a she, and called "her" Henrie! The new owners liked it. I'm sorry for the people who lost her; she was a really pretty bird and had obviously been handled. We passed out "Found a Bird!" flyers in our neighborhood, but there's no telling how far she'd come before she ended up in our back yard.

I've actually been reading up on getting fish for the past several months. I've wanted a tank for quite some time, but was worried about feeding the fish when I visited my parents. I found out that they have automatic feeders that are relatively inexpensive, so that would be helpful. I just have to make up my mind and see if I could afford to have an aquarium.

Bettas are easy, but you can't have more than one, and you can't have anything else, except maybe a snail, in the tank with a betta! Our Mr. Lincoln is a betta; he's bright red. He's our 4th one, and we've had him about 9 months.

Our first, Howard, lived almost 5 years. The second, Emeril, lived with us about a year; we gave him away when we moved, and he lived several years after that. The third, Thomas Becket, got the fin rot and died after about 6 months.

I had a grandfather who was lost at sea in the war of 1812, and I have Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" as a reminder.

(My kids are enriched because of my genealogy.)

Absolutely! We have the "1812 Overture," too. The kids love the cannons!

What I *really* want is a cat, but I just can't have one right now (my apartment complex won't allow anything but fish). So I just have to visit my kitty when I visit my parents. Ritz gets excited whenever I come home, but now he's gotten tired of me. LOL!

I have heard that bettas require a little more effort than goldfish. How big is your tank, and how often do you have to clean it out?

'Face,

I just bought Caitlin a parrot for Christmas. ( Actually, a "Ring Necked Parrokeet"0 but he's really a small parrot.

He's blue. Beautiful plumage

We make a lot of Monty Python jokes.

African Grays are GREAT birds, and can live to be over 100 years. i would love to have one, but i am too old, unless I work out a deal with Caitlin to take care of him after I die.

I had a Beta in Vegas, and he was a cutie. I had a one-gallon tank for him, but he knew when feeding time was, and he always came to meet me when I had been gone, even if it was just outside to set the hoses.

I named him Alpha; he was blue, and always wanted me to sit close to his tank so we could "talk".

Because of their nature, they should be isolated from other aquarium denizens, and especially other male Beta, as their "street name" is "Siamese Fighting Fish." They are carnivorous and in their natural environment, they are cannibals.

It is good to have a glass wall between them and the other fish in your aquarium. But you can start out with a Beta...they are fun.

We have a 2-gallon tank with a filter, but we kept Howard in a vase, and he did just fine (except when Agnes drank most of the water while we were on vacation!). We cleaned the vase about once a week, just put Howard in a water glass for a few minutes :-). If you overfeed bettas, their water needs to be changed more often. Otherwise, they're very clean.
