Christopher Reeve, Man of SteelFWIW
vanity | October 11, 2004 | self

Posted on 10/11/2004 2:06:13 AM PDT by Dr. Eckleburg

I preface this short vanity by saying I am pro-life, anti-abortion, anti-stem cell playing-God...

I have a friend who worked on Christopher Reeve's latest TV movie which Reeve just finished directing.

Movie sets are generally bedlam, filled with chaos, complaints, back-stabbing and petty irritations.

My friend said this production was different -- a life-changing experience for everyone involved with it.

The direction on the set was altered to accommodate Reeve's limitations which, according to my friend, were unimaginable. Reeve had to show up before dawn hours ahead of schedule in order to prepare for the rigors of production. He was constantly hooked up to machines. He could move nothing but his facial muscles. He was never alone, yet he was all alone.

Throughout the weeks, Reeve was steady, focused and serene. No one argued about craft services or late entrances or slow lighting. Everyone pitched in and did more than their share -- willingly, gratefully, aware of the tremendous effort Reeve was making and of his constant, unfathomable suffering.

My friend is not a particularly religious man, but he said he felt blessed and humbled to witness Christopher Reeve's profound courage and grace.

His pain is ended; he's strong and whole now. May God comfort those who loved him.

Reeve went into a coma after suffering a heart attack...also something about an infected pressure wound ("bed sore").

I am wondering if he signed a DNR form...

Kerry's comment during the second debate re: Reeves would some day be able to walk again because of stem cells is complete rubbish.

Medical research has this fascinating habit of latching onto the next latest "thing" as the saviour of mankind.

Ten years ago cytokines were going to change the way we approached everything from hepatitis C to cancer to anemia. So far their contributions have been extremely limited with toxicity and therapeutic level problems. While many seem to work in vitro few work in vivo. Yet to hear researchers ten years ago cytokines were foing to perform miracles.

Stem cell research has been around for years. Yet anyone who understands how stem celles form and work clearly understands that their medical application is grossly over-rated and undeserved.

Yet the Communist/Socialist/Liberal/Leftist Media Cabal in this country is using misleading propaganda on stem cells to buttress their pro-murder (more commonly referred to as abortion by the Leftist elites} stance on infanticide.

We should kill unborn babies to get stem cells so that a stooge like Reeves who blatantly disobeyed stern warnings from his horse jumping teacher not to attempt such dangerous jumps because he "wasn't ready..." and then paralyzes himself in the process, can walk again is beyond the pale.

Show me the money! Show me exactly how stem cells are going to "regenerate" spinal nerve tissue. It is nonsense. It won't happen because it is not possible. But that will not stop the stories from the Left so get set to conquer Alzheimer's, Cancer, make the paralyzed walk, the blind see, the deaf hear and bones regrow. And if you believe that you probably believe that John Kerry actually married that obese ketchup-stained broad for true love and not money!

The venom and lack of love and compassion displayed by some "Christians" never ceases to amaze me.

Yeah, there are a lot of hateful "Christian" and "conservative" creeps and general scum floating around FR. They're one of the reasons liberals caricature us as bigots.

Reeve seemed like a nice chap until he got involved with the pro-death wing of the democrat party. We can't always get what we want, but we often get what we deserve.

What a wonderful person you are. Let me guess, you think you're a "Christian."

He was a member of the Unitarian Church.

I noticed in the latest photo of Christopher Reeves last public appearance, all his hair (including his eyebrows) was missing. He looked as tho he might have been on a drug like a chemo drug which causes hair loss?

Does anyone know if he was undergoing any treatment which may have caused this?

He was an amazing man.

He claimed he didn't believe in God, but I don't think that's a problem for the unitarians.

Sorry, but this love fest is disingenuous.

Am I supposed to be impressed that Mr. Reeve, though disabled, came into work without complaining?

I've known several seriously disabled people who work hard everyday without complaining - and these are anonymous people without fawning producers, personal assistants, Hollywood contracts, etc.

The fact is, Mr. Reeve spent his last days using his fame and access to champion the murder of unborn children.

For his sake I hope he is at peace, but more importantly, I hope that the horrible damage he did to the cause of human life over the last decade can be repaired.

NOTE: the following is not sarcastic towards you.

Often, whenever anyone remotely likable dies, a host of FReepers instantly pronounce that he is in Heaven, evidently for no other reason than that they liked him/her. I assume they also have no particularly Biblical faith.

It's different with you. Now, I've never heard a hint that Reeve had any faith in Jesus of any sort, and none of his political leanings that I knew of seemed to have the slightest touch of the Bible on them.

I assume you do have some basis I don't know, for your statement. Could you share it?

Thanks,
Dan

I agree. I guess it's kinda like the funeral of a known immoral person. You don't want to tear the man down for the family's sake, but neither do you want to go over the top to praise him. What did he do that other disabled people did not, except to provide dems with a lot of ammo against Bush and the unborn ?

They're one of the reasons liberals caricature us as bigots.

Oh yes, blame the Christians for the phenomenon of leftists acting like leftists.

Newsflash: leftists will call you a bigot if you oppose affirmative action, oppose special rights for homosexuals, oppose illegal immigration, support school vouchers, support tax cuts, etc.

You don't have to be a Christian to hold those opinions.

The fact is, Mr. Reeve took very clear and very selfish political stands and used his medical condition to gin up sympathy for murder.

He is not beyond criticism.

Yeah, there are a lot of hateful "Christian" and "conservative" creeps and general scum floating around FR. They're one of the reasons liberals caricature us as bigots.

And there are probably more religious bigots, who insist on using quotes around the term Christian, than you'll ever know.

Prayers up to those who loved him. We cannot discern what is in a man's heart and whether or not he repented before death, all we can do is hope he is in a better place and leave it at that.

I realize I'm going out on a limb here, but I predict that Kerry will attend the funeral and make a speech there pertaining to how all his pain could have been prevented, but George Bush refused, etc etc.
