I preface this short vanity by saying I am pro-life, anti-abortion, anti-stem cell playing-God...
I have a friend who worked on Christopher Reeve's latest TV movie which Reeve just finished directing.
Movie sets are generally bedlam, filled with chaos, complaints, back-stabbing and petty irritations.
My friend said this production was different -- a life-changing experience for everyone involved with it.
The direction on the set was altered to accommodate Reeve's limitations which, according to my friend, were unimaginable. Reeve had to show up before dawn hours ahead of schedule in order to prepare for the rigors of production. He was constantly hooked up to machines. He could move nothing but his facial muscles. He was never alone, yet he was all alone.
Throughout the weeks, Reeve was steady, focused and serene. No one argued about craft services or late entrances or slow lighting. Everyone pitched in and did more than their share -- willingly, gratefully, aware of the tremendous effort Reeve was making and of his constant, unfathomable suffering.
My friend is not a particularly religious man, but he said he felt blessed and humbled to witness Christopher Reeve's profound courage and grace.
His pain is ended; he's strong and whole now. May God comfort those who loved him.
We will hear the 'Rats saying this all day everyday till Nov 2nd.
The venom and lack of love and compassion displayed by some "Christians" never ceases to amaze me.
Prayers for Mr. Reeve's family. They've had a tough row to hoe.
Oh, this is going to be disgusting.
Bitter twst of fate that Reeve is mentioned by Kerry and then he dies.
Or perhaps did Kerry know in advance Reeve was ill/on his deathbed?
Is there no level of filth to which these Dems won't sink?
The main gist of the dem line is: we need to keep legal the ability to take growing humans and detroy them through abortion so we can use their body parts to help other people like Chris Reeve (potentially) live better. The bloodlust is positively demonic.
I am just not happy hearing about this this AM.
Yep. I apologize for being cynical, but I am wondering how many hours it will be before the left blames Bush for Reeve dying.
Ahh... reminds me of the Paul Wellstone rally err memorial service. Always trying to work in a political advantage over a death, aren't they.
Am I the only one who is surprised the accident was NINE years ago? Dang.
I wish Chris Reeve's family well.
His passing was the first item I read this morning, and I was saddened. May his soul rest in peace, may his loved be comforted. Your obit of him is wonderful. Thank you for posting it.
What caused his death?
While I have no insight as to what life was like for him after his injury. I'll take life, I've got little ones I want to see grow up and hopefully have families of their own.
From this story in the NY Daily News, Reeve had a pressure wound (sometimes known as a bedsore) that got severely infected. He went into cardiac arrest on Saturday. He was taken to the hospital, went into a coma and died.

You think you're cynical? I am wondering if Clark Kent would possibly pull the plug on himself in a desperate attempt to "matyrize" the stem-cell issue and help Kerry?
Sorry, but it did cross my mind.
:>)
I loved his movies especially the one with Michael Caine with the twist ending. Can't remember the movie.
But, I have to say that he had 52 good years with a loving wife and child. That would be more than a child created for research alone would have had.
Rest in peace, Chris, you can finally fly.
I liked the newer TV version better. I think Superman as a vehicle was better suited for a serial story than for a movie. It was that way in the comic books and that way with both (?) TV series.
That said, Reeve was a fine actor, but I don't know any of his work beyond Superman.
I think that his courage dealing with his paralysis might have made a bigger name for him than his acting or directing. While it helped that he already had a modicum of fame prior to the accident, there really was something praise-worthy in the struggle. He could have so easily given up.
Our president does support stem-cell research. He even has government funding for some of it on those embryos which had already been killed....but not for the killing of new embryonic life with taxpayer's money.
There is no ban, so anyone can conduct research.....large pharmaceuticals, states, hospitals, doctors, universities, etc.
President Bush considers it wrong to take a morally questionable practice -- the killing of human life to harvest parts -- and force those opposed to it to contribute their money toward funding it.
I agree with that. As with other controversial fundings, let them follow the Constitutional, legislative process of going through Congress and bringing it up as a bill to sign, and then over-riding a veto.
If the proponents cannot do that, then let them resort to private funding and not try to force non-supporters to pay for that which they find morally reprehensible.
Reeve seemed like a nice chap until he got involved with the pro-death wing of the democrat party. We can't always get what we want, but we often get what we deserve.
Thanks, they hadn't announced it on the news I was watching yet.
This is her version of the infamous Katie Couric "Many people say..." construction. If a program chooses to read certain e-mails, out of the thousands received, they are stating their own opinion behind the thinnest veneer of pretended objectivity.
I well know that this thread is not an appropriate place to debate stem cell research and abortion, and I will not make it such. I do, however, feel that the President is going to have to make a major policy address on this issue in the next several days to explain the wisdom of his position, and the dangers of the utilitarian argument for abortion.
Good job, AM. Feel free to nuke this comment if you think it crosses the line. I would understand if you are feeling a little punchy at this point. Long night, eh?
We all know how the public reacts when the libs start doing a grave dance.
