Ronald Reagan - Father of the modern day War on Drugs

"It was during the presidency of Ronald Reagan that narcotics law enforcement morphed into drug war overdrive with a series of ever more draconian drug laws and an attitude of repressive "zero tolerance" emanating from the White House."

There was also a major crack epidemic going on in the inner cities.

Nevertheless, I have never seen or heard of a single pothead rob or shoot somebody for a dime bag because he needed a fix. Plus, if marijuana were at decriminalized, there would be far fewer bar fights. Alcohol and testosterone do not mix very well.

If all those law enforcement people were pulled from marijuana interdiction and enforcement, the war on islamofacsist terrorists would be instantly and exponentially enhanced and everyones' /precious/ security would be preserved. /sarc

I still have issues with hard drugs however. They remain absolutely debilitating in many quarters of our society. Nevertheless, the average 18000% profit margin on hards drugs is going to continue to fuel the market. Take out the massive profits, and you've won the drug war. Treatment maybe the only way. We are incarcerating for NON-violent activities and these people come out violent, like it or not. Prison rape and its ramifications is a dirty little secret subject nobody wants to broach.

A society is gauged in the manner it treats its' prison population.
Just look at the latest jail scandal in Atlanta, its a complete human rights debacle.

And no, I'm no bleeding heart liberal. I'm a big proponent of the death penalty, 2nd Amendment rights (DEATH 2 the AWB, all gun laws for that matter), harsh punishment for violent offenses, 3 strikes law for VIOLENT crimes, no IRS (consumption based tax), states rights, strict Constitutionalist, W's judges, against gay marriage, real border control.

peace....D
