My cat watches Discovery, Nova and Antiques Roadshow. Surround sound is OK if you don't want to talk to whomever you are with, but I prefer a good conversation to lots of noise.
I DO, however, like action movies, comedy (if it's done right) B&W almost anything, history, fantasy, sci-fi, and almost everything else except movies with a sad ending. I want to leave the movie feeling entertained, not depressed.
I also read a lot. For the same reason.
Bringing Up Baby, Grant and Hepburn a must for you then.
