I am originally from the south-I mean my ancestors were North Georgian landowners and fought for the Confederacy. Now living in Southern Illinois I find it heartening to see many young Southern Illinois highschool boys driving around with the flag of Dixie on their trucks and cars.
Try stopping some of them and asking how much they know about the Crittenden Amendment, the Three-Fifths Compromise, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, or the Peninsular Campaign. Teenaged boys often have a remarkably hazy idea of what it is that they are claiming to be part of or supporting.
