Is it just me, or does this smell like an urban legend?

In 88 and 89 I lived in South Africa with my family. My housekeeper came to understand that we were Americans, only there for a short time, and were not involved in local politics. She imparted a great deal of interesting information to me, such as she would vote however her chief told her to if she ever got the vote. She also said that the ANC had promised her mother the home the mom worked in, after the Revolution and after the whites were all killed.

Thing is for me, is everytime in the past, for my experience, (and I'm not coining my knowlegde as perfect), but I've always heard that there was Segregation their. Then I also knew that there were Dutch settlers. From those two pieces of knowledge, I concurred to what you've heard me say.

What are you asking? The first whites in the Cape Town area were there alone, few if any blacks lived in the area. Conflict did not come about until the English took over and the Afrikaner moved inland and encountered the Zulu who was moving south.

Murder is murder. It would be one thing to go blow the hell out of the army of North Korea. It would be another entirely to go slaughter the soldier's families to the third generation.

THAT is the sort of situation that has been described here. If you think that any sort of genocide is somehow justifiable, then I would question your beloved membership in the human race.

I had the idea that the Dutch overtook land from the Africans, just like the Spanish/English did from the Caribbean islands. And any forced takeover, deserves fighting back for.

I've clearly had a poor avenue of knowledge on this situation.

You know why white Europeans came over to the new world and took it from Native Americans? 'Cause we beat the Asians and Africans to it. If the American Indians had the technology they would have landed in Europe and done the same to our Ancestors. So why would you think that it would be okay for the majority to kill of the 10% white minority in SA. That is what is being discussed. A genocide. That is wrong irregardless of the events of past centuries.

Yes, I read the article. But it was the way it hit me. I'm truly sorry, it's obviously I'm misinformed about that lifestyle over there.

No I don't not believe it is right for anyone to die, except for that which they believe in to be true. I would die for my friend, family, fellow American, and God.
In that sense I would die for What I believed in. I thought that these were legitimately, angry African people. Like those I thought were segregated by white.

SA has been desegregated for over a decade now. This happened the same time as the aparthied government was disolved.

It is a lot of crap, to already fuel the passions of the ranks of those uninformed about Africa as it is. (I wonder if South Africa didn't say SOUTH if some would be able to locate it)

I once worked with a "white" South African here in the states, it was back in 98, I think.

He was heavily racist. We had dark complected people working there too. And he always grumbled at them. He would over speak them, and treat them with much dismay.

Then there were a couple of missionaries, from a past congregation we attended, back in early 90's, that had been to South Africa, said the people were beautiful, but talked of much segregation.

So these are some other instances I based my harsh knowledge on.

If he's OLDER then that's just culture of doing things in certain parts of SA that he's used to do. Some not all, are like civil servants being snotty to everyone, and if he's Afrikaner all the more defensive. My ex used to tell people he was Dutch, not South African.

Even during apartheid, there was not as much segregation as the liberal propaganda mill will have everyone believe. Considering that SA is a country in transition I think a lot of outsiders are very harsh in their judgments which are very uninformed.

My wife is from SA, and calls her sister, who lives in Rivonia, almost every weekend.

Twice recently, she has had problems with the call and the operator came on.
After telling the operator where she was dialing, the reply was:

"..But what COUNTRY in South Africa?"
