they'll knife you in the back

The problem is.... in Internet FR Theater it doesn't hurt to get knifed in the back. Some times it's just good theater (and good for business in the short run, but bad in the long run).

As is common in every business, it's the original entrepeneur who determines ultimately how successful the orgainzaion will be. What is more important? That ultimate control (so it can continue to be toyed with) is retained by the originator, or is set free to see what true impact it can make on the world?

People need to be very clear that FR is a case of the former. It will never reach it full potential, because that is not the real goal. The goal (IMO) is for it to be as successful as possible without precluding micromanagement from Jim and his chosen cadre du jour.

And that's fine. It happens every day in the world with all kinds of regular businesses. It's his baby, he can do as he choses. It pays the bills and makes for a hell of a hobby. I have long ago figured out not to bother trying to change the above, because no one ever will.

Good to see you Daus... hope all is well.

I've always been a little torn as to what the "real" FR was.

Sometimes it seems to have almost inexhaustible potential as a force for good.

At other times it seems to be an internet passion-play, with business undertones...

Certainly the "us vs. them" stuff is good for the butt-smoochers, and perhaps even for business.

But it stinks on ice for the "force for good" option.

I beg to differ, because I got knifed in the back by Buckleak and it hurt. About a year later it dawned on me that he'd done the same thing to you in 98--so I should not have been as surprised as I was.

I guess that's a price we have to be willing to pay to be in Internet show biz.

FR Theater. LOL.

How can I get my public comments page to show only the last 40 posts and no more like yours does? I asked Jim about this but got ignored. Maybe you can help?
