Wrote and sent this via Email to daughter this morning. She loves it and said I can share it.
Saras Wedding
"Daddy I dont know these folks",
You whispered quietly.
"Dont fret sweetie its OK,
Theyre staring straight at me".
You laughed, we walked, and smiled a lot.
The crowd basked in your glow.
Up front there stood a handsome man,
Enjoying this, your show.
I briefly stood between you two,
The love coursed through my heart.
I sat down and watched in awe,
As your new lives did start.
Jay loves you and you love him,
So keep that love for good.
Treat each other with respect,
The way that couples should.
I love you both with all my heart,
And pray for you the best.
Im glad the weddings over now,
I hope to get some rest.

SHARDS

On guard one night
Beside a dug-in fifty,
Routine firing in the distance,
Tracers arcing on the horizon,
I witnessed in the snowy field
Beneath a gibbous moon
The wild dancing of rabbits.
Days of steady rain
Washed away the enshrouding snow,
And in the field and woods
Decembers dead
Came up like wildflowers.
The dead German
Lay on his back
In the muddy ditch
One arm skyward
As though in supplication
A jokester wire man
Had lain a phone line
Through the fingers
Of the reaching hand.
Entering the crosscut town,
Which on a whim the lumbering colonel
Had not let us shell,
We were greeted
By his corded dead.
Beside the road,
Where it had been caught
By a strafing fighter
Was a burned out German gasoline truck.
Thirty yards away
Burned lobster-red,
Lay two bodies.
I felt blessed
Not to have witnessed
Them fleeing
Aflame and screaming.

Flurry,
What a beautiful tribute to your daughter and her husband.
Thank you so much for posting it in the Lair this morning.
New vows, new lives, new paths to walk.
How very much you love your daughter. She is blessed.
