IN THE 1960'S OUR COUNTRY CALLED
HER SONS AND DAUGHTERS ONE AND ALL.
TO A TINY COUNTRY ACROSS THE SEA
TO HELP THE PEOPLE BE FREE.
IN THE JUNGLE SO TALL AND GREEN,
TO FIGHT AN ENEMY OFTEN UNSEEN.
MOST EVERYONE SAW THEIR BUDDIES FALL
THEY DIED AS HEROES AND GAVE THEIR ALL.
WE GAVE OUR BLOOD, OUR SOULS,
MORE THAN ANYONE WILL EVER KNOW.
WE FOUGHT A WAR NOT ALLOWED TO WIN,
BUT IF ASKED TO WE WOULD DO IT AGAIN.
OUR GOVERNMENT SENT US TO THIS PLACE,
WE CAME BACK HOME THEIR WORST DISGRACE.
TO A TIME OF PROTEST IN OUR LAND,
BUT ALL WE DID WAS MAKE A STAND.
OUR COUNTRY SHUNNED US FROM HER GRACE,
HOW WILL WE EVER FIND OUR PLACE?
WE'VE TRIED AND TRIED, BUT WE HAVEN'T YET,
BUT WE WONT GIVE UP
CAUSE WE'RE JUST VIETNAM VETS.

i cannot rely on dreams
i must make my own reality

i cannot rely on others
i need to make my own decisions

i must strive to create my own happiness
within the window of fate designed for me

i can only direct my own actions
based not on other's responses to those actions

i may not get the response i desire
and therefore find disappointment

facing this reality can be difficult

it's easier to dream
of what might be based on what i imagine

i must be careful in this endeavor
to find my own road
my own place in this world
