Your post hit my heart.
My children were raised in this god forsaken border state of Missouri. They have no southern roots and I grieve for that happening.
But, I laugh as I hear them all repeating my southern expressions. So, all is not lost, methinks.
Just tonight, my five year old grandaughter told her three year old brother "you scared me to death" while fluttering her hand against her heart.
LOL

I am thankful for my gracious southern upbringing. It has served me well at times when I might otherwise have given in to a darker side of life. It is at such times that I can hear my grandma say things like, "A little consideration goes a long way" or "pretty is as pretty does" or "anything worth doing is worth doing right." And "count your blessings." Funny how when things are bad, if you count your blessings it is hard to wallow in self-pity. There are always so many others who are so much worse off.
