Somehow Merle Haggard turned into a liberal over the last 20 years. I have heard that he no longer sings "The Fightin Side of Me." He recently mentioned he was ignorant at the time he wrote it. Big surprise he supports the Dixie Chicks.

Pseudo intellectuals enjoy "feeling" they have studied a subject, and therefore have come to the correct conclusion.
Merle Haggard was right the first time, when he was at his peak.
"You're walking on the fighting side of me, running down a way of life our fighting men have fought and died to keep.If you dont love it, leave it, let this song that I'm singing be a warning-When your running down a country man, you're walking on the fighting side of me.
He may not sing that song anymore, but I will proudly recite it to him,and everyone, and remind him that what was true then, is still true now.
That he became a drunk and a druggie because the world laughed at him for his songs, doesnt mean his songs were wrong.
It just means he lost his muse when he started believing his comeback press releases.
Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater!
