The Seasons (OK, The Four Seasons, but that wasn't how he referred to them) is (are) brilliant! A number of his other violin concetos, the concerto for two trumpets, the one for two mandolins, etc. are very attractive, but much of his work strikes me as note-spinning. (Haydn really bugs me with so much note-spinning). Stravinsky is supposed to have said that Vivaldi wrote the same concerto 550 times, which is not strictly fair (usually bitchy tempermental artist remark!), but I know what he meant.
