Is she running out of dog treats?
Michigan Bambi-huggers have adopted the mourning dove. Basically, they're trying to save hunters from the blood lust that comes from killing such gentle, peaceful creatures. I guess they don't eat squab, either, which is what doves are.
Mourning doves are as common as dirt in Michigan. Nobody will be hunting doves at my feeder, although I'd love to kill the pigeons if I could get away with it. But dove hunting is challenging, and I have no problems with thinning the herd a bit. I feed enough of them all year long anyway.
Basically, starting a new form of hunting in Michigan just makes it harder for liberals to cut back on other forms of hunting. Deer season starts soon, and there will be plenty of anti-hunting articles about how seeing dead deer on a car traumatizes children, and glorifies guns.
And, of course, the same liberals that tell us we need to look at how Europe does things never bother to look at the state next door. Mourning doves have not been extincted in any other state, but they always treat their situation as unique in human history, especially when the exact opposite is working everywhere else.
