The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Naw...I've had broken toes before. and broken fingers. If they are straight and no bone is sticking out, there really isn't anything more to be done...just tape them and go on.
It was not the pinky toe on my left foot, but the one right next to it.
The only thing I'm considering is the pain medicine I have from when I hurt my eye!

Naw...I've had broken toes before. Yep, purty much all you can do is tape 'em and live with 'em. But you know 2J, the point of ownin' all them red shoes is to wear them!
I'm just jealous 'cause I wouldn't dream of goin' barefoot in my backyard...

Pick yer stimulant of choice...OK, got mine picked out. ;-) Too bad I'm limited by being at work though.

Wanna go over to TNS and race 'em to the finish line?
(I'm not really series about that...)
To: Corin Stormhands
LOL!! Well, I'm thrilled to get to go barefooted, because we had all those nasty sand burrs that we crawled around on all fours pulling up! We still do it, because we still have them, but it's not so bad now and we can run around barefoot.
Unfortunately, I love to walk through fresh cut grass barefooted and invariably, it tatoos my feet green! That's embarrassing when you wear sandals to church!
Sand burrs...these buggers are bad enough to pop bicycle tires...our yard was overrun with them when we moved in...we pulled moving box after moving box-fuls at first. Now we just pull the occassional one.
Poisening them doesn't do any good...the burrs remain in the grass and still hurt!

My brother has big problems with sand burrs in their yard at the beach house. They keep fighting them, but I think that close to the beach it's a losing battle.

Yep. The only real way to get close to getting rid of them is to set up a boundry (like our privacy fence) and then pull them up one by one. We literally laid cardboard down and went over our property (1/4 acre) foot by foot, pulling them gently so as not to shake loose the seeds. I used a butter knife to pop mine up. My fingers still got pretty beat up from it, and bled through my gloves! They are tough buggers.
Each year, we still have them, but each year it's less and less.

And I'm anxious to see if this new fence will keep out the sandburs even more, since the neighbors would mow and just spray them right into our yard through that chain link fence...
It's gotta help!

Leave it to the professional religionists to not implode honestly....ooops...did I say that outloud?
The hospital just called. I have to get my mom there by 5 for surgery at 7. That will take about two hours, followed by an hour in stepdown. It will be at least 10PM before they take her to her post-op room for a couple of days, then 4-7 days in rehab. I suspect it will be well after 11PM before I get back on.
Your prayers and good wishes are gratefully acknowledged

Well, the other neighbors fight them as well, but they can't put up a fence. They just post a warning not to go barefoot in the yard.

Our implosion was better.

Take care. Take a good book. We'll keep you and her in our prayers and await a good report.

Yeah, but saying it sounds a little Hobbit Holier than thou...

I have a viseral HATRED of these things. When I was six, my parents took us to a "dude ranch" in Bandera Texas...when we got there, I leapt out of the car and dashed (barefooted) to our cabin. I got about half-way there and found my feet FULL of deeply embedded sand burs. I stood there howling and my mom kindly told me that "That'll teach ya." After a while, my Dad came and got me and got them out of my feet (you know, they have barbs and hurt worse coming out, if you can believe that is possible.)
When I realized we had that same devil plant in our yard, I just cried. Then, we got to work pulling them.
