The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…

Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

The Road Goes Ever On…

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

No fire?
Miracle at that.
Almost afraid to ask if the driver was smarting off, or if he had to avoid something.

My first attempt at making challah from scratch is gonna be done is a little less than 15 minutes (she says almost 4 hours after starting the 'project'). It is absolutely gorgeous. The sourdough bread still has about 2 hours to go. It isn't going to be as pretty as the challah, but prolly just as yummy!

Heh, if you're not Jewish, is it a sin to bake challah on Saturday?

Hi all, I just scanned the only picture I have of my USAF "company car"

That tanker looks might shiny in that picture. Did you polish it every weekend?

Found online a generic image of my "ride". I was bottled up inside, so I never got to see where we got to, until I found our coordinates on a map. But it sure beat eating dust for 40 miles.

That particular one was painted in house using gloss paint. Our brass did have us try to wax one of 'em one time that had a flat OD finish. One time only. LOL

Guess what we did last weekend!

We went to see the Lipizzaner stallions in Richmond VA!

They aren't connected with the Spanische Hofreitschule Wien, but their horses are Piber bred and trained in the traditional style of dressage. Here are some really neat shots (thanx to An American Father who is a very good photographer under totally lousy conditions):

The Levade

The Courbette

The Capriole

The boy leading the procession is the one I want to sneak my mare in to in the dead of night. Handsomest, best extension, and most flexible of the lot, and also the horse doing the capriole.

And for something completely different, here are the latest Shelley-the-Dog photos:

"I would like a real one for Christmas please."

<"They can hang this portrait in the Board Room."

"But what I really want to do is go outside and chase those doves under the feeder . . . "

Great looking chunky white horses, too. And great photography under difficult conditions.

There has been some discussion here whether Labs or Goldens make the best affection sponges. There's a lot of love oozing out of both kinds.

Thought I would stop by to say "hi" and take a break from, like you, trying to get these Christmas decorations up. I don't know what is wrong, but I no sooner get something put up, like lights and greenery, and go to another area, then either the lights I had just finshed with, go out, or something falls that I just put up. I don't think I have ever had such a hard time getting Christmas decorations up. I am not happy. Hope everyone else is doing better at it than I am.
(I think I would rather read ROTK reviews)

Don't have a use for one of those yet myself.
Except maybe to hang a sign on it that says, "Out for lunch, be back later"

Looks like what I need for my daily commute.

There are more practical alternatives. I saw one of these in the parking lot of a vey upscale mall recently. It's even bigger than a Hummer H1.

The US Army Tank and Automotive Command and the General Dynamics armored vehicle R&D office are both near me, so I occasionally see an M-1Ax being driven on the highway between the two places. It has no problem with rush hour traffic. But the Steyr 6x6 might be more practical for your needs.

Well, we bought the tickets for the midnight show for the three of us, and also for a 2:40 showing the next day.

The guy selling us the tickets was REALLY confused... I know what day to show up for the midnight show... but he doesn't. He kept telling us we had to come the night before the date on the ticket.... Which should be Tuesday night the 16th... but he is telling people to come Monday night because it is Tuesday morning..... We tried to tell him he was a day off and that the 16th was a Tuesday night for a Wed 12:01 show, but he thought we were confused, and there were people behind us so we let it go.
