The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Old Mother Hubbard
went to her cupboard
to get her poor daughter a dress.
When she got there
the cupboard was bare
And so was her daughter, I guess.

I can't take credit for it, but I can't remember where I heard it. Years and years ago.

...the one that makes some of the females on this thread slightly light-headed! Those Gyrenes always did have the best uniforms. Unlike the "unemployed bus driver" dress uniform jacket that they gave us Coasties... :-) We always hated that getup. And we coasties always hated the Air Force... cuz that's where they stole the uniform. :-) The Tropical Blue uniform though (light blue short sleeve shirt, dark blue slacks, and white combo cover and black patent leather shoes) with the law enforcement black leather gear package... now THAT could be made to work. :-) It sure seemed to be popular to wear off duty in San Diego.

Good night Corin! Stay warm and dry.

No kidding, Matthew just came up to me and wanted me to come in the bathroom (he was getting a drink of water). He says "Look at this!" I look and he has the cup so full of water that it's bulging up, but not running over! He says:
"No more half full cups of water for me! This one has SURFACE TENSION, MAN!"

Dang homeschooled kids. Always ruining it for everybody else. :-)
To: Ramius
Marines definately have the best dress uniform, but they all look good!
But I think the one 2J is talkin' 'bout is a pic of g'nad in his floppy boonie hat.
The one in the upper left corner of this (stole it from the FR finest thread header)
To: HairOfTheDog
That's the one. His copy is better. I think it's in color.
A very dashing young man.
(I can say that, seeing as I'm his elder.)

Yesterday, a while after lunch, Matthew was doing his school and he comes walking down the hall to the bathroom.
A few minutes later, he comes walking down the hall to the bathroom again.
He came out of the bathroom and says to me "That coke I had with lunch has really inhibited my antidiuretic hormone!"

Well, yah... and that's a good look too. As I recall the CG didn't have a floppy-hat camo uniform. :-)
"Camoflage" to a coastie is what? blue and wet? don't think so...
The best look for the USCG ever was really cool: It was a flat black jumpsuit with zippers and pockets everywhere... combined with a black mesh "tactical" vest with a shoulder-holster carriage for a .45 and mass pockets everywhere for ammo and the other stuff we carried. The tactical vest had a built-in CO2 cartridge with an inflatable life vest and helo-harness.
The jumpsuit was worn bloused-boot style with the regular tall black patent leather boarding boot (a combat boot with a white boat-shoe sole). The hat was a black ballcap with small gold USCG anchor on it.
It was a badass outfit. Everybody loved it.
Unfortunately it was killed by the brass, cuz they thought it would be "overly intimidating" to the people we boarded.
Uh... duh??? ...and the problem with that is... what?
To: Ramius
The Mustang suits are sexy.
To: HairOfTheDog
Mustang suits aren't sexy. They are practical. In the extreme. Unless "Gumby" is a sex object... and if that's the case, then I have little more to say on the subject.
To: Ramius
LOL... and I didn't know you were such a connoisseur of clothing!
