You'd need to understand the sweetheart has done everything right. We used to be brought nearly to tears (her mom and me) as she would come home every day from elementary school with fresh new horror stories about how the kids picked on her and gave her fresh new embarrasments and punishments, enought to last a lifetime. We would clean her up, do homework, stories, songs, card games and bed times until she was all happy, then start all over again on the next day.

That was then, this is now.

She has her blackbelt in Karate, tested over in Shanghai at the Shao-Lin temple for it. She has her bachelor's degree in Computer science well underway, matriculated next month. 3.87 GPA. She has about 11 boys writing her, who are off on their Mormon missions right now. She had the whole Orem high school football team come over and ask her -- and just her -- out for a date to go see a movie. Her 20th birthday had four separate dates with boys in it. She has her own new Dodge pickup truck.

Last night she curled up in her sweetest pose on my arm and asked if she and I could have a 'Daddy Daughter Date' since she would have me all to herself all week ..... How could I say no? Reservations are at 6:00 pm at P.F. Chang's Chinese Bistro.

I miss being a parent.
Even though I was an ersatz parent, I still miss it.
That feeling of pride.
