Computer whiz kids...got a question...could be important too.
Have any of you heard of a virus that is called jdbgmgr.exe? I got an email from a friend who says this does not come by way of email and is not detected by Norton or AcAfee. It sits quietly for about 14 days before damaging the system. It is automatically transmitted by the address book whether or not you sent emails to your contacts. then there are directions on how to get rid of this and it talks about a teddybear icon and then jdbgmgr.ex.. Something tells me this is a hoax..anyone out there know anything? I emailed Kathy back and asked her what her source was and how did she know this was not a hoax? I remember about a year ago or so there was something similar going around and had some sort of icon and the thing was actually a part of I think microsoft software and if deleted then the whole system was really fouled up. Anyone know anything about this? I don't see how a virus can get into the addy book without an email..how else does something get into your addy book unless you put it there?

Symantec Security Response encourages you to ignore any messages regarding this hoax. It is harmless and is intended only to cause unwarranted concern.
Type: Hoax
This hoax, like the SULFNBK.EXE Warning hoax, tries to encourage you to delete a legitimate Windows file from your computer. Jdbgmgr.exe is the file to which the hoax refers, and it is the Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java. The Jdbgmgr.exe file may be installed when you install Windows.
Notes:
Some versions of this hoax take advantage of an actual threat, the
W32.bugbear@mm worm. The Jdbgmgr.exe file mentioned in the hoax has a bear icon. The actual
W32.bugbear@mm worm file is a .exe file and does not have a bear icon.
Other versions of this hoax have slightly different ways in which they refer to the Jdbgmgr.exe file, usually in the subject of the email message.
For example:
Subject: "jdbg" Virus: how to detect and remove.
IIRC, you probably don't want to delete your Java DeBug Manager.exe from your windoze OS.
But what do I know? I'm got a Mac, and we don't seem to get anywhere near as many virii...
