Neets.
Neets would've been out of electric as well.

No, I've been working like nothing is happening.
In the 60's and 70's when those systems were built, they were supposed to be run with 10% - 20% extra capacity everywhere. Well, people don't like power generators near them, so the system became one with distant power generators running with 1% to 2% extra capacity everywhere.
Then Boingo, Just like a string of fireworks, it all blows up.

Thank you Nully,
I read the whole thing. It always helps to know the sacrifice veterans of WWII went through for this country.

I just got a letter from my girlfriend Pat in Fl. They are telling them that when it all goes back online, it might knock them out. It does run to FL.
She says its unbearably hot, and she doesn't know what they'll do if it hits them..as she's not feeling well besides.
I guess there is always the car, and they do have the RV.. That might work..

We were getting ready to drive to our place up North when the outtage hit.
We could not fill up our cars with gas, so we had to figure how far we could get with our tank half full.
We drove out of the affected area and watched in amazement howmany people were panicking about gas and water. We listened as the power company CEO got on the radio and asked businesses to shut down Friday(today) so the surge would not be as difficult.
We are feeling so patriotic and citizen like about our pre-power outtage decision to go up North and now we can justify with pride taking Monday as well!
Heheheh....

We had planned to go late yesterday before it hit.
Didn't hear of anything this bad near us. Most people hav been pretty good about the problem around us. We talked to several people today, other than the gas and water panicking (sporadic they say) everyone is handling it well.

I've learned that linseed oil has to be applied until it doesn't soak in anymore, so that is the step of the moment. 3 of linseed, then paint. I didn't know about the linseed oil .. I just use the stuff in the can and well .. I have no idea what's in it
Sitting in the backyard late at night is peaceful

Check this out

Images taken by a NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) satellite showing light coverage in the northeastern United States on a normal night (L), at 9:21 PM Eastern time on August 13, 2003, and after a massive blackout affected much of the area (R), shown at 9:03 PM Eastern time on August 14, showing the relative lack of lights due to the power outage. Millions of Americans and Canadians slowly recovered from the largest power outage in North American history Friday, as President George W. Bush (news - web sites) called the blackout a 'wake up call' and urged the modernization of antiquated electricity infrastructure. Officials were trying to pinpoint the cause of the breakdown and to discover how it cascaded so quickly through much of the northeastern United States and the Canadian province of Ontario, knocking New York City, Detroit, Cleveland, Ottawa, Toronto and a host of smaller cities back into the pre-electric age. Great story Nully.

Linseed oil is the 'Expensive Ingredient' in paint, yet it costs less than most paint. When it soaks in and dries, it makes the wood have a leather like exterior. I have slats coming down almost 20 years old, yet when cut open, the cedar inside is still pink and dense like when it was put up.
It spilled on some dry leaves when I was applying it, and they never did decompose. Good Stuff.

Baked in my reptilian skin, I did.
Had to quell my Felis Rotundus a few times as she was having quite a snit due to there being no electricity.
