Good question and one I've considered for awhile. I heard a person in church saying one time that nowhere in the New Testament does it say that we are supposed to tithe, instead give what we choose to be a cheerful giver. Not saying I agree with it, just found the argument interesting, although now that I think on it, I can see it's an argument that
could be used by someone that doesn't want to give as much
Personally, I consider the net to be the answer, although I can see the gross being considered as well

Do you know of a new testament reference for tithing. I sat under pentecostal teaching for thirty years and never heard one new testament reference for tithing, only old testament. It seems hard to drag tithing through the veil that Christ's blood erected between the new and old testament. The unltimate teaching to Christans, the word of Jesus Christ, never mentions tithing, that I am aware of. If it's not in his word it's not to be practiced in the church.

Tithing in the New Testament is found in Heb. 7:8 as here men that die receive tithes, but there Jesus receives them, as a witness. As far as net or gross, I personally wouldn't shortchange God with net.

Fundamental Baptists & many others argue GROSS. I wish I gave more to the church (and had it to give!). I simply pray that what I give will be used for His glory, and that circumstances change to allow more substantial support.
