The Guild 5-18-2003 God Bless Art Linkletter
Posted on 05/18/2003 6:43:52 AM PDT by BigWaveBetty

Last week Art Linkletter was given the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Daytime Emmys. I saw him accept the award and at 90 years old he's still as sharp as ever. He made me smile all the way through his speech (no transcript online yet) and at the end he said there were two groups of people he liked to interview the most, kids and old people. Kids, because they don't know what they're saying and old people because they don't care what they say.
You gotta love Art, a great American! Here's a link to an interview he did with Human Events Online.

Well yes, since my kids weren't the booing culprits, it's sort of funny.
Altho I hold Donahue is extremely low regard, I won't boo him, and I'd hope my kids won't either.
Hitlery is another matter. Even this old biddie would let out with a resounding boo given the chance. I remember the concert given for the NYPD & Firefighters,,, and I remember the chills of pleasure when I heard her booed. (Perhaps my mother didn't do a very good job of teaching me the social graces,,,,, and perhaps that's why I did so poorly in HLL's survey elsewhere on this site)

The best quote from the Presidential Watch web site covering the appearance of the 7 Dwarfs (plus 2 by video phone) in Des Moines over the weekend:
Timely, appropriate editorial cartoon of the weekend: On the Opinion page yesterday as the Dem wannabes were preparing for their first labor union forum in DSM -- the Des Moines Register reprinted a Steve Sack editorial cartoon from the Minneapolis Star Tribune: It showed a group of suit-and-tie-wearing donkeys leaving a Democratic Debate with one of them saying to another donkey: So, if the election were held today, which candidate do you think would give the best concession speech to George W. Bush?

Mornin', y'all.
The Squid sliming again: 'Clinton Wars' Seems to Be Proving an Apt Title
They are only two sentences buried in more than 800 pages of text. But those sentences in "The Clinton Wars," the new book by the former Clinton administration aide Sidney Blumenthal, have made Chris Matthews, the host of "Hardball" on MSNBC, more animated than normal, according to executives at NBC News.
In his book, Mr. Blumenthal writes that Mr. Matthews wanted a job in the administration and "lobbied the White House" to succeed Dee Dee Myers as press secretary, "but the job had gone to Michael McCurry."
Mr. Blumenthal goes on to say that Mr. Matthews then "turned into a detractor of Clinton," though he draws no direct connection to the supposed failed job hunt. He also writes that Mr. Matthews told friends that his tough position on Mr. Clinton had bolstered his Nielsen ratings.
The Squid stands by his story and says, "It's the truth..."
He wouldn't know the truth if it bit him in the heiny.

Barf alert:
WASHINGTON - The Hillary Rodham Clinton juggernaut is on the move.
Her book about her life in the White House, "Living History," will hit the stores next month with a stunning first printing of 1 million copies, tapping into what its publishers are gambling is insatiable public curiosity about the former first lady and feeding a new wave
of rumors that she's preparing to make her own run for the presidency in 2008.
It's a reminder that the nation's most controversial political couple are still a formidable presence on the national scene and are turning a tidy profit on marketing their memories.
Former President Clinton has been on the international celebrity lecture circuit since he left the White House, charging as much as $250,000 for a speech and earning an estimated $9 million last year. He is still working on a memoir of his presidency, for which he received an advance of $10 million from publisher Alfred Knopf.
The former first lady has maintained a low profile on Capitol Hill since she made history by being elected as the junior senator from New York while still in the White House. But Sen. Clinton will be back in the limelight with the publication of a 576-page book for which she received an $8 million advance from publishers Simon and Schuster. She will narrate an audio version of the $28 that will
go on sale June 9, and she is expected to embark on a nationwide book tour.

One perplexing thing about this "It takes a Village" book. It seems like only yesterday the editor and publishers were screaming to high heavens about the fact that Hitlery's deadline to submit her manuscript was long past due, and that there's no way they could meet their deadlines. So what gives? We all know she didn't have time to do this herself, yet I can't buy into her giving a ghost writer free reign.
Hill is far too controling and anal retentive to allow someone else to write that book for her. Even if a Ghostie did the first draft and she went in and did the revisions, I just can't comprehend there was time enough to get it done, and done properly. Mark my words, Hill wants it done properly, there's too much at risk to do otherwise. Especailly given her higher ambitions.
So, will somebody who's written a book please explain this to me?

As far as the ghostie is concerned, perhaps having a "minder" at all times helps the motivation....that, and fear of Arkanicide.
What do you think? And I don't have my tin foil hat on.

I don't know what I think. There are just too many unanswered questions to form an opinion.
No tin foil here, either. All my tin foil is crumpled and surrounding my houseplants to discourage my cat from using the pots as a litter box.

Those are good questions. I seriously doubt the 'Beaste actually wrote this book, but you do have to wonder whether there's anyone she can trust enough to do it for her. Also, will it read the same way she speaks, i.e., nasal, monotonous and grating?
To: mountaineer
nasal, monotonous and gratingYes. Yes. And Yes. And since you mentioned it,,, wouldn't that have been a fantastic title for her novel?
