Dixie Chicks get last laugh

That breeze you feel is courtesy of a sigh of relief echoed from the handlers of the Dixie Chicks as the "there's-no-such-thing-as-bad-publicity" rule plays out once again.

Rest assured that a girl group singer's off-the-cuff remarks and ensuing success will fuel plenty of jingoistic rants to keep group-thinkers' proverbial prayers and guns aimed at anyone who dares utter dissent.

However, such corporate -- and public -- McCarthyism does further expose the limits now placed on certain American freedoms, in this case, freedom of speech.

The writer is as phony as a three-dollar bill. In America today, full-blown McCarthyism is primarily found on college campuses, in public school classrooms ... and in mainstream newspaper press rooms.

Ok, so when she speaks out, it's freedom of speech.

When the consumer speaks out, through boycott or other protests, it's McCarthyism?

I think I'm beginning to understand the leftist celeberity mindset. I'm free to say what I want, you're free to do nothing about it.

As a Texan, as a former GI, and as an American - you can kiss my ass, Fat Nat.

The Chicks are desperate to regain their momentum but their best days are behind them. It is all down hill from here.

They did the hour long whine with Sawyer and dropped their drawers for the magazine which I think is an indication of their level of fear.

They will labor through this tour and consider themselves lucky if they break even and in a few years people will be saying "what ever happened to the Ditsy Sh$tz?

But they will always be the group cited when a manager cautions a celebrity to "don't say something stupid".

Dizzy Chicks get last laugh?

The last laugh comes due when the curtain goes down after the final concert on this tour.

Until then, Natalie Maines Mouth is a timebomb ticking and ANYTHING can happen.

Why is she exposing her armpit like that? Is she trying to convince the world that she's not French?

She's saying "Talk to the Hand!"

LOL! I was fixating on her hair. Don't you think it's a little like Sharpton's during the SC debate? What's with these ugly hair statements, anyway?

Yeah..the Dixie Chicks got the last laugh. I'm waiting to see the reference to their all important remarks in some history book down the road that tells us all about the historical significance of the Bush presidency.

Think we'll find them in the tiny print of a footnote somewhere?

And, yes, Mr. Hickman (I'm trying not to make a gratuitous remark) in your best sneering tones country music is unapologetically patriotic. Which is one of the finer things about it.

I know it's hokey and that is difficult for people like you and the Dixie Chicks to get past. Which is why you or they wouldn't begin to understand how offensive their personal remarks against the president were and where they made them..to a decidedly anti-American crowd who they knew would cheer them on. It's a kind of American pride thing that snide liberals like you all wouldn't understand.

And if we decide to take that a step further and "voice" our dissent with a boycott of them who are you to tell us that we can't. Somehow the label McCarthyite gets thrown around by the very same people who are trying to squash dissent from the opposition. Seems rather contradictory doesn't it?

Let the Dixie Chicks cash in on their alleged victimhood. For a band of narcissist celebs I'm sure that a reward in and of itself.

Country fans will do the right thing. They always do.

KZLA is the most listened to country station in the world. Here's their top 20.

No Chicks here.

The momentum for any musical group is radio airplay. You take away that and you've removed their power source. If people don't hear you on the radio then they don't know about you and don't buy your music. That's why the recording industry spends millions every year to get their groups' music into radio rotation.

Momentum is a funny thing--you can remove the power source and an object will keep moving....for a while. The Dixie Chix are roaring down the freeway with the wind in their hair, but if they listened real close they might notice that the engine has died and they're really just coasting.

You are right. The liberal press is pushing them, pushing them - you see, the conservatives have to power to damage them - but country fans will not forget. They will not be nominated for awards in the near future, and they will always carry the black eye of having embarrassed their country.

Remember Jane Fonda, she got movie roles and such after her treason, and did well selling exercise videos, but she was never respected again by anyone who counted. And she never shook the tag of Hanoi Jane.

Whoops, I meant that line to read "to prove the Conservatives have no power to damage them".

Need to preview better!

The broward (aka miami) concert was not sold out. On saturday evening if you wanted you could STILL buy tickets for the sunday concert. Concerts that are not sold out are unlikely to be sold out.

I have not seen any information about the selling of concert memorabilia. This must be because its not selling.

Yes, she is married ... to actor Adrian Pasdar, who is of Iranian descent, by the way.

Read it on her bio somewhere.

Go figure.
