Why I Hate The Dixie Chicks - I prefer intelligent women

The Dixie Chicks is one of the most talented musical groups ever. Their music is very, very tight. Another Texas group shares that accolade, Asleep At The Wheel. What distinguishes both group’s music is not that it is catchy, or clever. Coming from someone with a little background in music, what impresses me most is that their music is extremely hard to do right. And, boy, they do it right!

AAW and the Chicks have true talent and enjoy rare gifts. It’s too bad the the Chicks also have stupidity and arrogance in equal, large measures.

Performers are loved for what they do to entertain. They endear themselves by the escape they provide. In a sense, they are not real people.

The harsh reality performers of all disciplines are discovering is that when one of them uses his recognizability and notoriety to draw attention outside his usual environment, he steps out of character.

Just like a stage actor who goofs-up and becomes a different persona at an inappropriate time during a play, the error is nearly impossible to overcome. The audience no longer trust him and is sceptical of what he is doing on stage. The show is ruined.

The Chicks did just that in England when Natalie Maines pandered to the foreign audience and announced that “Just so you know, we are ashamed George Bush is from Texas.” She made the mistake that arrogance encourages by thinking the audience wanted to hear what she thought instead of what she sings. She was stupid for doing it overseas.

The only possible way for the Chicks to salvage their future was to fire Maines on the spot and look for someone else. They didn’t. They’re history.

Oh, there will be more concerts, more CD releases, but the love affair is over. The country music-loving men of America can no longer listen to the Chicks and not remember the disloyalty the Chicks showed, and can no longer see them slip back into character. Many stupid and arrogant actors are also discovering this phenomenon. The American public has stopped spending money on what they are trying to sell.

I loved the Dixie Chicks. Their beautiful, exquisite music still rattles around in my head. And it makes me mad.

You see, they done me wrong.

This is Jet-Eye, Over and out.

I am an American. I don't have a "leader". Our executive is called the President. And according to our Constitution such an executive in not a "leader". YOu may have a "leader" as did followers of Hitler and Stalin but I don't.

I give not a hoot about their political beliefs.

This is a political forum where most of the old timers care a great deal about political beliefs.

Your comment was rare and surprising, so I checked your sign-up date.

As long as you don't post libel or profanity, you are welcome to roam around and argue your point of view.

lets face it, the bread and butter fans of the Chicks are women who were likely to have voted for Clinton, hate men and think abortion is Ok. What makes anyone think that they would all of a sudden grow a concience and think the Dipsy Chicks are wrong?

That's interesting news. I know close to zero about the Dixie Chicks. I assumed they were a country and western group, not Carley Simon x 3.

Their songs are N.O.W. branches out to the trailer park.

Ever hear of their hit Earl had to Die? About an abused woman poisoning her husband? The video is sickening...makes light of it all.

If a guy did a similar song, the same women that are their fans would be out on the streets demonstrationg and apearing on CNN and ABC blaming the male dominated American culture for it.

The Perfect Country Western Song

WELL, IT WAS ALL
THAT I COULD DO TO KEEP FROM CRYING’
SOMETIMES IT SEEMED SO USELESS TO REMAIN
BUT YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME DARLIN’, DARLIN'
YOU NEVER EVEN CALL ME BY MY NAME

YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME WAYLON JENNINGS
AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME CHARLIE PRIDE
AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME MERLE HAGGARD/ANYMORE
EVEN THOUGH YOU’RE ON MY FIGHTING’ SIDE

CHORUS:
AND I’LL HANG AROUND AS LONG AS YOU WILL LET ME
AND I NEVER MINDED STANDING’ IN THE RAIN
BUT YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME DARLIN’, DARLIN’
YOU NEVER EVEN CALLED ME BY MY NAME

WELL, I’VE HEARD MY NAME
A FEW TIMES IN YOUR PHONE BOOK (Hello, Hello)
AND I’VE SEEN IT ON SIGNS WHERE I’VE PLAYED
BUT THE ONLY TIME I KNOW
I’LL HEAR "DAVID ALLAN COE"
IS WHEN JESUS HAS HIS FINAL JUDGMENT DAY

REPEAT CHORUS

RECITATION:
WELL, A FRIEND OF MINE NAMED STEVE GOODMAN WROTE THAT SONG
AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG.
I WROTE HIM BACK A LETTER AND I TOLD HIM IT WAS NOT THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG BECAUSE HE HADN’T SAID ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT MAMA,
OR TRAINS,
OR TRUCKS,
OR PRISON,
OR GETTING’ DRUNK
WELL HE SAT DOWN AND WROTE ANOTHER VERSE TO THE SONG
AND HE SENT IT TO ME,
AND AFTER READING IT,
I REALIZED THAT MY FRIEND HAD WRITTEN THE PERFECT
COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG
AND I FELT OBLIGED TO INCLUDE IT ON THIS ALBUM
THE LAST VERSE GOES LIKE THIS HERE:

WELL, I WAS DRUNK THE DAY MY MOM GOT OUT OF PRISON
AND I WENT TO PICK HER UP IN THE RAIN
BUT BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE STATION IN MY PICKUP TRUCK
SHE GOT RUNNED OVER BY A DAMNED OLD TRAIN

CHORUS:
AND I’LL HANG AROUND AS LONG AS YOU WILL LET ME
AND I NEVER MINDED STANDING’ IN THE RAIN
NO, A’ YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME DARLIN’, DARLIN’
YOU NEVER EVEN CALL ME
WELL I WONDER WHY YOU DON’T CALL ME
WHY DON’T YOU EVER CALL ME BY MY NAME

I love the Dixie Chicks. I don't tangle art with politics. I am from Boston. I bought the Dixie Chick CD about 2 days before the story broke about them in England. I don't care what one of them said! If our troops can't stand what a blond from a country band said then we are in trouble. I like their music and will even see them when they come to Boston.

How many troops do you know? I'll tell you I know hundreds of them and yes they are offended by what the Chickie Dixs did overseas. They see them as cowardly and disrespectful of our nation, and our President during war. Their disparaging remarks hit home with the troops because it's their boots and rifle that are displayed during a memorial service. It's our president that she slammed, a president who is not a coward but a man with dignity and honor, a president who gives the troops a much overdue and needed pay raise, a president that has increased much needed funds for training and supplies, a president who doesn't despise the men and women who are willing to die for stupid Natalies right to be just that.

Don't forget that there are many military spouses who stand by their person in uniform and a president that we can be proud of and we won't be spending our hard earned money on the likes of the Chickie Dixs and the Hollyweirdos that have done so much to hurt the moral of our service members. Enjoy the concert and if my husband comes home in a body bag I'll invite you to the memorial service. While you are there I'll introduce you to men and women with dignity and honor. The salt of the earth, the backbone of this great nation.

P.S. Try to remember to cut out the profanity. (You may be surprised to learn that you used a profanity in your last post.) I find it a challenge, but it does bother the sensibilities of many religious people here to see such words tossed off without regard.

I don't wish them ill, I don't want them to have a bad life

I do wish them ill because of what they said. What they said was not an anti war statement. What they said was a gratuitous, unsubstantiated personal attack on a man who has little to be ashamed of in the last 10 years.

If they had said "we are against the war too", I think that's fine. Engaging in an attempt at character assasination is not fine.

I don't care what one of them said

She did not argue against the war, or any other topic. She made a gratuitous insult against Bush on a personal level. Saying you are against the war is fine. Saying you are for the war is fine. Saying Bush is an embarassment is not fine when except for his past drinking, there is absolutely no justification for this statment.
