I don't know why this is still news. Of course they pissed people off, and rightly so. But I mean, they're just a pop-country girl group -- they're not journalists, they're not politicians, they're not even as "influential", for lack of a better term, as some of the prominent Hollywood types who've done and said the same and worse. I'm all for people boycotting their music, but all this continued attention and demand for atonement seems overblown at this point, IMO. Frankly, it's starting to remind me of the Lott Affair, only much sillier.

Country music, for the most part, is conservative and patriotic. So Maines pissed off a lot of people with her stupid comments on eve of war.
Comparing this to the Lott affair is like comparing fresh ground beef to fresh dog feces.

Former Dixie Chicks' fans were not average movie goers. Instead, they were very patriotic Americans, usually to the right of many Freepers.
It really hurt to have my favorite country group spouting anti-American propaganda in foreign soil as a cheap schtick.
