Vanity, (sort of.... At least I was honest about it!)
A friend forwarded this from a retired SF E-8. It takes the position that, as Citizens, we all have a duty to preserve the Republic. Those of us who fought in other wars know that the support of the home front is critical.
We were once young soldiers, in need of every ounce of support we would get. Now, other young soldiers are having their very foundation attacked by people like the professor referenced herein.
Please read it, then decide, have you done everything you could do today to help this sick man realize the pain he has caused. Decide if he was trying to fight our soldiers on the home front. Perhaps you might want to take some legal, ethical, non-violent action and tell his friends, co-workers and bosses how you feel about him.
EMAIL BEGINS HERE: At an anti-war "teach-in" this week, a Columbia University professor called for the defeat of American forces in Iraq and said he would like to see "a million Mogadishus" -- a reference to the Somali city where American soldiers were ambushed, with 18 killed, in 1993. "The only true heroes are those who find ways that help defeat the U.S. military," Nicholas De Genova, assistant professor of anthropology at Columbia University told the audience at Low Library Wednesday night. "I personally would like to see a million Mogadishus." The crowd was largely silent at the remark. They loudly applauded De Genova later when he said, "If we really believe that this war is criminal ... then we have to believe in the victory of the Iraqi people and the defeat of the U.S. war machine."
Here is Genova's curriculum vitiae:
"The central concerns of my research and teaching include: labor and class formation, racialization, the production of urban space, nationalism, the politics of citizenship, and transnational social processes, especially migration. My ethnographic research explores the social productions of racialized and spatialized difference in the experiences of transnational Mexican migrant workers within the space of the U.S. nation-state. More specifically, I examine transnational urban conjunctural spaces that link the U.S. and Latin America as a standpoint of critique from which to interrogate U.S. nationalism, political economy, racialized citizenship, and immigration law."
(In English, that means he is a socialist who is critical of immigration policy...what else is new?)
THIS IS THE KIND OF PEOPLE WE HAVE TEACHING COURSES AT AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES! When he isn't calling for the deaths of Americans, this so-called professor writes articles on rap music! And you wonder why our young people don't seem to know anything, but graduate from college with a great deal of hatred for this country and its institutions!
If Genova feels that strongly, why doesn't he leave his cushy ivory tower position and fly to Iraq to take up arms against the U.S.? Why doesn't he drive to his nearest military base and declare war on the soldiers there? I e-mailed him and personally invited him to come to my home and attempt to raise the Iraqi flag.
Please consider voicing your concerns directly to Mr. Genova or his superiors, and pass this message on to anyone else who might feel equally outraged. He may have freedom of speech, but so do we!

It is amazing that those who need education so very much think they have the calling or wisdom to educate our children.
