"As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful," Natalie Maines said in a statement from Nashville, Tenn. "I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect." - Her lawyer.

One of the top Country stations in Dallas (99.5, The Wolf),
home of the Dixie Chicks, has stopped playing their songs due to listener protest. I think the girls bit off a bit more than they can chew here. They just recently set a Ticketmaster record for most tickets sold in one day for their upcoming tour. I would be nice to see about half of those tickets returned in the next week or so. I'm not a country music guy, but I'd guess many country music fans lean to the right.
Nothing like seeing the market at work.

"As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful," Natalie Maines said in a statement from Nashville, Tenn. "I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect." How convenient -- and completely unbelievable. What she really means is, "Ooops, I got caught."

Sounds like an (pathetically transparent) attempt at damage control.
Sorry, not buying!

'Irks' is not the word for it.... she has left a permanent bad taste in my mouth. I'll never be able to enjoy their music if I even wanted to.
She betrayed her American fans for some Anti-American blue-blood snobs. Let the heffer sing to them permanetly.

http://launch.yahoo.com/read/news.asp?contentID=212895 A lot of folks haven't seen the latest quote above from Ms. Maines. Seems like she's back tracking since she doesn't like all the flack she's getting. Now she says it was just a joke, to get a laugh. Well, I'm not laughing, neither is America.
