San Antonio DJ Pulls The Plug On The Dixie Chicks
LAST UPDATE: 3/14/2003 10:02:22 AM Posted By: Carly Miller
A popular country music group has some San Antonians turning off their radios. A KJ 97 DJ pulled the plug on the trio's songs after lead singer Natalie Maines made a negative comment about President Bush.
The trio is on tour overseas, but they're causing quite a stir back here at home.
"Natalie Maines before a concert audience in London, England said, and I quote, Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas," said Keith Montgomery with KJ 97.
The comments prompted Montgomery to pull the Chicks music off the air Thursday
"I would say the reaction is 99 percent in favor of what I have done," said Montgomery.
Texans aren't the only ones upset about Maine's comments. Reaction from all over the country caused the group on Thursday to post an explanation of their stance. The group released a statement Thursday saying they have been overseas for several weeks and "the anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding. While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost."
In a separate statement Thursday, Maines said, "I feel the president is ignoring the opinion of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world. My comments were made in frustration, and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."
But in the process of putting their opinion out there, they're losing support. Angry phone calls flooded radio stations across the country Thursday, calling for a boycott of the Texas trio's music.
The Dixie Chicks will kick off a U.S. tour in support of their multi-platinum album "Home" on May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina. The group's hits include "Wide Open Spaces," "Ready to Run" and "Landslide." The Dixie Chicks are coming to San Antonio in July.
Montgomery says, after hearing from more listeners, he'll decide on Friday whether to play their music on his show.

This is from World Net Daily......David Limbaugh
Liberals confuse the right to dissent with the act of dissenting. My liberal friend Alan Colmes recently said, "I think protesting is actually very pro-American. It's what a democracy really is."
No, Alan, protesting against America is not "very pro-American." Being pro-America is pro-American. Defending one's right to protest is celebrating America's freedoms. But the act of dissing America while exercising those freedoms is not pro-American.
By no means are all those opposed to war against Iraq being unreasonable. But those extreme leftist anti-war protestors are different. They have every right to belittle this nation as it prepares for war, but they shouldn't expect to be exalted for it.
And we have the right to boycott those who speak against what we believe in...

Good - it seems to be catching on. These idiots in Hollywood and in the music industry are quickly learning that their views don't represent real America.

Very correct. I find it very humorous that these "celebrities" who have been created by the intense (and mostly inflated) hype of the lamestream media, are the first ones to believe what they see on CNN reported as massive anti-war demonstrations and feel compelled to state their piece too. Don't they remember the spin and imagery that propelled them into the spotlight? They should remember that it is not the true reflection of middle America. May they all keep biting the hand that feeds them....then they will finally starve and die.
