WALTER Cronkite, at Le Cirque with his wife and daughter, telling the next table about our seemingly inescapable about-to-be invasion of Iraq: "We'll win the battle, but we'll lose the war. The war of hate. It will then flame even hotter and higher against the United States."

Quoted by Cindy Adams Why does anyone even listen to this old fool?

Oh well, we can read someone wiser, Mark Steyn:

The other day the Independent's Joan Smith wrote a column headlined 'It's About Time the US Got Over 9/11'. That presupposes 9/11 is itself over - that it was just a one-off, a freak, like a bad tornado or the record-breaking snowstorms that hit New York and Washington this week. The storm has passed and normal life resumes. That's more or less what happened after the first attempt to take out the World Trade Center in 1993: America got over it, very quickly. So they bombed it again. link to thread

Good thing their dad didn't see Barbara and Jenna Bush at the party that hip-hop honcho Andre Harrell and Cognac prince Maurice Hennessy threw at Butter the other night. Our spies spotted the twins getting way down on the dance floor with rap king Sean Combs. And what was that fragrant smell that wafted over the room? The party also drew Naomi Campbell, Jessica Alba, Jay-Z, Fred Durst, Christian Slater, Queen Latifah, Ludacris and Angela Bassett.
