When my dad was stationed at Hamilton, my mom came out to live with him there, and they lived in San Rafael...a woman in San Rafael, had a large home, and she rented out rooms to military couples, and that is where my mom and dad lived...

Its some distance from San Rafael to Hamilton, and there used to be a special bus, that came from Hamilton, and picked up all the military personnel in the surrounding areas, and took them to the base...

Mom got pregnant with me out there in San Rafael, and then dad got transfered overseas...so mom, six months pregnant, decided to go back to Chicago where her family was, have me, and wait out the war, and wait for dad to return....

Military men made so little money in those days and mom and dad barely were able to scrape together enough money to buy mom a train ticket back to Chicago...but she needed to out of San Francisco, ,and they did not have money enough to get her there...so a military bus came and got her and took her to San Francisco....

My first time visiting California from Chicago, we were going down to San Francisco, and dad and mom decided we should stop off in San Rafael, and I could see where I started out, where I was conceived...they found the street sure enough, and found the two big palm trees which had been out front of this boarding house...but the house was no longer there...it had been torn down, and in its place was a big motel, with a pool...mom and dad were sure disappointed, as, altho, ,times in that little room were financially strapped, and war was going full tilt, and dad was often in danger, still that little room, was lived in by a newly married couple, who found much happiness, not in worldly things, but in love, and just being with each other, knowing that dad was often in danger and could lose his life...I am the result of that love and happiness....and grateful to my parents, who were not afraid to take the plunge and get married, and have a family, in spite of the horrific war going on and the future as yet undecided...

Nitey nite all...see ya tomorrow...
