They're not talking about taking your finger prints. You're not acquainted with irony are you?
My proposal is to fingerprint, and I mean real fingerprints from your fingers, to fingerprint everyone. Think of all the crime it would solve. If it saves just one life. It's for the children.
All the arguments used for ballistic fingerprinting can be used to justify real fingerprinting everybody as well. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. If you are opposed to going down to the police station and voluntarily giving up your fingerprints, then maybe you can understand why the NRA is opposed to ballistic fingerprinting.

Sorry, I mis-read your post. I agree with you though.
I don't need to go down to the local sheriff to give up my fingerprints. They already have mine, along with the State Police, FBI, ATF and probably the CIA for all I know.
Aside from my military service I was also a firearms dealer.
I personally don't believe Ballistic Fingerprinting will work though.
If you need to replace the frame for your firearm, you need to go through a back ground check because the frame has the serial number.
If you want to replace the fireing pin or the barrel, just lay your money down and walk away because there are no serial numbers.
Where do you get the Ballistic's from? Not the frame.
In my own opinion it is just another feel good law that will do nothing to stop or even solve crimes.
I have nothing against stopping crime, but people like Handgun Control have no clue what they are doing.
