Everyones commentary is very helpful and makes me feel less like a dummy.

"the Mr. Scott Ridder" could support what Iraq is sayingDid someone neglect to tell Mr. Al Salami Baloney that here in the U.S., Mr. Ritter has had a slight credibility problem of late?

NYT reports:
The top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware, said after an early-morning preview of Mr. Powell's presentation at the White House that he was unsure the Security Council would be won over. But he said that he was persuaded. He told reporters as he left the White House, "If I had this evidence, before a jury that was an unbiased jury, I could get a conviction."

I probably should have phrased that query differently, though in truth I'd really rather not think about it!
To: mountaineer
Beyond "the Mr. Scott Ridder", the Iraqis relied almost exclusively on quotes from the NY Times editorial pages.
If this weren't so serious it would be truly laughable!

Wow, Hitchens has sure changed his tune about President Bush. He was NOT impressed with Bush for a long time, but now says he will work to reelect President Bush.

Morning. I'm not in a happy mood today. You and the ladies and gentlemen of the Guild are my only lifeline to sanity. After watching the 8pm re-run of Powell on cspan I asked a person who shall remain nameless what they thought of the information Powell gave. The answer, it was okay. (confusion upon hearing that) So I asked again, the question of the day (from radio and tv) is did Powell's report change your mind or sway you to think we indeed need to go to war with Iraq?
The answer? Powell's report is open to interpretation. *crickets*
And no, it makes no difference that Iraq has broken resolution 1441 because those who shall remain nameless claim that the US has broken resolutions in the past as well, so big deal.
I moving to New Zealand, would anybody like to join me?
To: Aggie Mama
Wonderful!

"Presidents, in a republic, aren't supposed to make that decision," he said. "The people are supposed to make that decision through the vote of their members of Congress, and therefore, I believe this should be rescinded - the president should not have the power to declare war."Ahh, Ron Paul, our fav Libertarian in republican clothing.
Gosh Ron, if I were you when the vote was taken I would have stood up for my principles and walked out leaving my rep. seat empty until the next election.

WashPost story on the Iraqi nuclear scientist who defected and has provided some
smoking gun info for the U.S. regarding Saddam's nukes:
In the summer of 1998, when Hamza first went public with his story about Saddam's relentless desire for the Bomb, much of the press ignored him. The country was transfixed by the saga of Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky.
Not to mention that in 1998, the president himself couldn't have cared less.
To: pubmom
I could tell you but then I'd have to.... well you know. ;-)
Tell your daughter to bring lots of sunscreen, towels and fresh water, but no live stock. The government of New Zealand taxes each head of live stock because of their flatulence contributing to global warming. No, I'm not kidding.
To: BigWaveBetty
Darn that global warming. Speaking of enviro issues, the
Washingon Times reports:
Word that former President Bill Clinton will help the Rolling Stones raise awareness about global warming when they perform a free concert tonight in Los Angeles has some folks in Washington shaking their heads.
"Bill Clinton's lip-biting appearance at the gig to decry President Bush's global-warming policies is certainly odd," says Christopher C. Horner, senior fellow of the Competitive Enterprise Institute.
"You see, the Clinton-Gore and Bush policies - not rhetoric, but actual actions and policies - on Kyoto and global warming are indistinguishable. Strange, but true. The man [Mr. Clinton] who signed Kyoto refused to send it to the Senate for ratification for the over three years remaining in his presidency.
"Bush won't send it for a vote, either," adds Mr. Horner. "Clinton talked a big game about making the treaty fully binding reality, but chose not to. Bush has talked a big game about withdrawing, yet, oddly, still has not.
"The only difference seems to be one gets lauded for having done something that in reality he refused to do, [That sums up the revisionist history of the Clinton presidency] while the other is pilloried for having done something that in reality he refuses to do."
