MODESTO Scott Peterson, whose pregnant wife, Laci, has been missing since late December, tried to sell the couple's Modesto, Calif., home, sources close to the investigation into her disappearance said. Peterson allegedly looked into selling the home, saying he had issues with it and didn't want Laci coming back to it. The deal to sell the home was scrapped about a week after Scott first began looking into it, according to a Sacramento television station. But Peterson, 30, reportedly is driving around town in a new truck these days. He traded in his missing wife's Range Rover SUV for a Dodge pickup truck, sources close to the investigation said. It's unclear what motivated the transaction and Modesto police have not commented.
A Slap in the Face
But the news is a blow to Laci's friends and relatives.
"Sharon, Laci's mom, turned to all of us and said, 'You know Scott sold Laci's car, don't you?' And we were all just shocked, absolutely shocked. And we didn't know, I didn't know what to say," Luceene Gee, who has been volunteering in the search for the missing woman, told KOVR.
"My first thought was, 'How cold.' I mean, that's a piece of Laci," Gee said.
Another volunteer commented on how the news must be affecting Laci's mother.
"I felt so bad for her, because it's just like another slap in the face for her," said Bruceene Norton. "She's grieving her child, she doesn't know where she is, she doesn't know what happened to her, doesn't know what's happened to the grandchild. And [he's] sold the car, wants to sell the house. It's heartbreaking."
Heather Sutton, a friend of Laci's, also told KOVR she found the news distressing.
"It was hard to hear that, just because I know that, just by looking at the car, it's totally Laci and by hearing that she loved that car, that was difficult for me. And maybe he has his reasons I don't know," Sutton said.
Family members held a candlelight vigil on Jan. 31 for the 27-year-old Laci and her unborn child, who was to have been named Connor.
Scott Peterson says he last saw Laci on the morning of Dec. 24, when he left on a solo fishing trip. She was eight months pregnant at the time.
Police have not named Peterson as a suspect in his wife's disappearance, but attention has focused on him, in part, because he admits he told his wife he was having an affair shortly before she vanished.
In a recent interview with ABCNEWS' Diane Sawyer, Peterson said his wife accepted his affair with Amber Frey, a single mother from Fresno, when he told her back in early December. Frey has said she had no idea Peterson was married, and that she contacted Modesto police as soon as she realized the man she was seeing was connected to a missing person's case.
Peterson told Sawyer he and his wife never even had a fight over his extramarital affair, adding that he never laid a hand on Laci and hopes to find her alive.

People are fascinated with crime stories that never end? Or do you mean the fascination will never end?

And who was Laci Peterson? No offense but, should I know?
Not to sound crass, but there are many murders which take place across this country.
I don't know who Clara Harris is either. :)
I'm feeling more uncool every second...
Did Laci find him with yet another woman in her own house? Why wouldn't she want to come back to That home, where they had supposedly fixed up the nursery for their son?
Because I would like to know who Scott Petersen is, and why this possibly murder case is of national importance. Was that not clear?
I had thought. But maybe we can look on the bright side, the return of a shallow obsession with sensationalistic crime stories may indicate that we're winning the war on terror.... :)
I mean sometimes I really do long for the quaint superficial days of pre-9/11, when Gary Condit / Chandra Levy was important and fascinating, when Bush was "putting arsenic in our water", and so on... Oh for the days when we didn't have real stuff to worry about, right?
Yes there are, and this is one we have chosen to discuss at this time.

Turn on the news......any channel should be able to bring you up to par very clearly..... so you don't have to keep asking who what where every other post.
Right. That's quite clear. But the question wasn't, "Which murder case are you discussing at this time?" The question was, "WHY are you discussing this case at this time?"
your either on the wrong thread or your just a troll. Nothing here to interest you.... try another thread.
As is evident.
I was wondering what reason for this there might be.
It is apparent that you don't have an answer for me. That's okay. Thanks for trying,
I'm afraid that will be a long wait. They have no case. Unless they can find the body and tie him directly to it, he's gotten away with a double homicide. You may think this next absolutely crazy but it may happen. Both he and OJ are golf nuts. I find it distinctly possible that you will someday read a story about a round of golf they played together. Don't say impossible! That's what people said 10 years ago when Rush said they were coming for your SUV!
I do own a TV, but I am not kidding with you. I watch very little TV - mostly Simpsons and, sometimes, Sunday-type news programs. I also use it to view movies on video quite often.
As a result I haven't learned anything major about "Scott Peterson" using the TV which I own. (And I had ignored most threads with "Scott Peterson" in the title, till now; perhaps something about the banality of the headline "Scott Peterson Sells Missing Wife's Car" induced me to actually click.) Anyway, so that is why I am asking. I do apologize for my ignorance (and uncool-ness).
