AMHERST For one night, on May 9, the quaint colonial town of Amherst, New Hampshire, was transformed into a Saudi Arabian Bedouin tent community, with the
help of 80 seventh-graders at the Amherst Middle School. The weather cooperated, providing 85 degree temperatures to give an authentic Saudi feel to the evening.
How about terror training camps? Saudi Arabia *SPIT* Was there a wahhabi tent? And a 9/11 tent?
More than 250 guests arrived at the open tent and were welcomed with an Arabic greeting of Marhaba by students at a Saudi customs desk.
During the check-in, guests selected a traditional Arabic name for their name badge and completed an actual Saudi customs form, which warned in bold letters Death for Drug Trafficking at the top.
Hey left out "Death to America. Death to Israel". I mean, it was supposed to be authentic right?
Only the seventh-grade boys were allowed to host the food stations and the Arabic dancing, as the traditions of Saudi Arabia at this time prevent women from participating in these public roles.
Dressed in traditional Arabic wearlong plaid kilts, white shirts and turbansthe boys offered food and entertained guests. The Arabic dancers enthusiastically performed to music and encouraged male visitors to join their dance.
Seventh-grade girls hosted the hijab and veil stations, where other female guests learned how to wear the required head covering and veils.

But - 'it takes a village to raise a child' is one of the best excuses given to people who don't give a crap about their kids anyway. The lil'bastards are Not Their Fault. Government's. So more guvmint's needed obviously.
As Kevin Jaeger has previouslynoted, Tony Blair's Britain is getting creepier every day, taking on traits generally reserved for post-apocalyptic fiction writing;
Secret plans to encourage the nation to give up eating meat are being examined by the Government.A leaked e-mail expresses sympathy for the environmental benefits of a mass switch to a vegan diet - a strict form of vegetarianism which bans milk, dairy products and fish.
[...]
The e-mail, sent to a vegetarian campaign group, comes from an official at the Environment Agency, a Government advisory body. It states: "The potential benefit of a vegan diet in terms of climate impact could be very significant."
However, it does recognise that it would be very difficult to win public support for such a move. Consequently, it says the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is looking to encourage a gradual change that would be more palatable to the general public.
The e-mail states: "It will be a case of introducing this gently as there is a risk of alienating the public majority."

The real mystery remaining is why the British public continues to tolerate the smothering encroachment of this uber-nannystate into every aspect of their lives.
Have they added something to their water?
Why?
Because the nannystaters have a REALLY GOOD propaganda campaign, that's why. This report must be a mistake; after all, John Edwards says there is no terrorist threat: 4 Charged In Plot To Blow Up Jet Fuel At JFK.
NEW YORK According to NewsChannel4s Jonathan Dienst, sources said federal investigators have made arrests in an alleged terror plot on Kennedy Airport.
Four people have been charged. One is in custody in New York.
Sources said the plot involved a plan to blow up a jet-fuel pipeline at JFK setting off a potential massive explosion.
Law enforcement officials said the plot may involve a former airport worker.
A press conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. this afternoon.
What are the odds that at least one of the alleged plotters is named Mohammed?
(Hat tip: LGF readers.)
UPDATE at 6/2/07 9:54:58 am:
One of the alleged plotters, Abdul Kabir, is a former member of the parliament of Guyana, and was arrested in Trinidad.

UPDATE at 6/2/07 9:58:42 am:
Again, the media are obsessively asking experts whether the plot was connected to Al Qaeda, and again, it appears they were not.
Lets all just ignore that big green elephant in the middle of the living room, shall we?
UPDATE at 6/2/07 10:02:17 am:
More names: Russell Defreitas (aka Mohammed), Abdul Nur, Kareem Ibrihim and Abdul Kadir.
UPDATE at 6/2/07 10:08:58 am:
There are connections to the radical Islamic group Jamaat al-Muslimeen. One of our posts about the jihad in Trinidad relates some of the violent history of this group; in 1990, they bombed police headquarters, stormed the Trinidad parliament, and took the prime minister and his cabinet hostage in an attempted coup that killed 24 people. And the plotters in that case were eventually pardoned.
UPDATE at 6/2/07 10:24:56 am:
Sources said a cargo worker at JFK allegedly began to plot attacking the US last July or August. The cargo worker sought help in carrying out a plan and went to an FBI informant, who gathered information about the plot.
The cargo worker is a U.S. citizen with roots in Guyana. Sources said he be [sic] a former government official in Guyana.
Sources said counter-terrorism officials have been following the plot for a little less than one year.
Sources said the plot involved a plan to blow up a BuckEye jet-fuel pipeline at JFK setting off a potential massive explosion. BuckEye provides fuel to all three NYC-area airports.
Sources said the plot involved putting explosives inside the fuel pipeline but realized that it was not technically feasible.
UPDATE at 6/2/07 10:37:06 am:
A possible connection to wanted Al Qaeda operative Adnan Shukrijumah:
FBI agents feared but never confirmed the three men accused of plotting to attack John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York were linked to one of the most wanted al Qaeda leaders, Adnan Shukrijumah, known to have operated out of Guyana and Trinidad.
Officials tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com that they heard repeated references to Adnan during the extensive wiretaps conducted on the suspects telephone conversations, including calls to Guyana and Trinidad.
There is a $5 million reward for information on Shukrijumah, who officials consider extremely dangerous because of the years he spent living in the Miami area and his known ties to al Qaeda. Some of the 9/ll hijackers attended a south Florida mosque run by Shukrijumahs now deceased father.

Drudge has a siren flashing: Kennedy Airport Terror Plot Thwarted
According to NewsChannel4's Jonathan Dienst, sources said federal investigators have made arrests in an alleged terror plot on Kennedy Airport.
Law enforcement officials said the plot may involved a former airport worker.
A press conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. this afternoon
UPDATE: 1:15 PMLaw enforcement official calls suspects "al Qaeda wannabes"
Three arrested, one still at large. These men were under surveillance for some time. They were hoping to blow up a jet fuel line so as to set off a series of massive explosions. The fuel line feeds John F. Kennedy International Airport and runs through residential neighborhoods, officials close to the investigation said.(more here)
The official said the plotters had conducted surveillance on giant jet fuel tanks at JFK and the pipeline. They had taken surveillance video of the targets and took it to Trinidad to review the tape, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the arrests were not yet announced.
These Islamic terrorists have been tentatively tied to Jamaat Muslimeen (sp?) "struggle for Islam" - orgininating from Trinidad (the Caribbean is now a hot spot.) Places you least expect.
It seems a Parliamentarian was involved in this plot. Yes, A GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL. A former member of the parliament in Guyana, a small South American country between Venezuela and Suriname near the top of the continent. Those arrested include a U.S. citizen; a second U.S. citizen who is a naturalized citizen from Guyana; and one Trinidadian. Authorities are also looking for one more person, who is from Guyana. One of the suspects was an airline worker with "intimate knowledge of entire airport and inner workings of JFK."
One suspect, a U.S. citizen who is a native of Guyana and who once worked at the airport, was described by a source as "a very angry Muslim extremist."
"A very angry Muslim extremist?" Is there any other kind?
Another suspect is a former member of parliament in Guyana, several law enforcement officials said.
A wiretap transcript the FBI gave CNN indicated the plotters targeted the airport because of the popularity of its namesake:
"Anytime you hit Kennedy, it is the most hurtful thing to the United States. ... This whole country will be in mourning. It's like you can kill the man twice," the transcript quotes one suspect as saying.
President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. Full article here
In all, four individuals, including the former Guyana parliament member, Abdul Kadir, and Russell Defreitas, a U.S. citizen and native of Guyana who worked as an airport cargo worker, have been charged with conspiring to attack JFK. (Photo: Abdul Kadir - on the left)
Also in custody are Kareem Ibrahim, a citizen of Trinidad held in Trinidad, and Abdel Nur, a citizen of Guyana. The United States is planning to seek their extradition.
UPDATE: 1:38 pm Liveblogging press conference:
Roslynn Mauskopf, US attorney for the Eastern District of New York: "The most chilling plot imaginable." The damage and carnage impossible to fathom. The devastation that would be caused is just unthinkable."
Plot spread from NY to Guyana and Trinidad.
" Huge concern about the fuel line. The feeding tube that feeds international commerce, airport, residences." "The Buckeye Pipeline (orginates from Allentown Pa.), a 40 million fuel line, runs from New Jersey to Nassau (JFK) ......" It is the central fuel line.
"This plot similar and different to ones in the past (the Lincoln tunnel planned blow up, the '93 stock exchange plot, the Financial District plot) . It is different as it is tied to the Caribbean. Similiar in that it is a self radicalized New Yorker plotting to betray his country with a catastrophic event."
The plot began in the US and then spread to Trinidad and Guyana, officials said.
The group had shown unusual persistence, seeking finance and expert advice and gathering photographic and video surveillance as well as satellite images, said Mr Mershon.
"This is a very determined group," he said.
Growing concern about terror cells in the Caribbean.
"New York has become complacent."
"We urge NY , if you see something, say something!"[what would CAIR say about that? LAWSUIT! - Atlas]
"Look at the world through the eyes, through the prism of September 11th."
One of the suspects (Defreitas - sp?) was quoted as saying: "the attacks would result in the destruction of the whole of JFK and destroy whole parts of Queens. Few people would survive."
"Even the twin towers can't touch it. This would destroy the whole US economy"
The complaint adds that an informant and Defreitas discussed the war in Lebanon in August 2006 and agreed, "Muslims always incur the wrath of the world while the Jews get a pass."
It was at that point, court records say, Defreitas shared with the informant "that he had a vision that would make the WTC attack seem small."

Jihad In Trinidad Posted 1/23/2007
Homeland Security: There's a lot of talk about al-Qaida safe havens in Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. But the FBI is closely watching a potential hot spot in our own hemisphere.
Al-Qaida is suspected of having set up a front in the Caribbean island state of Trinidad, and sympathetic jihadists have already launched a movement there to replace Trinidad's Westernized government with Islamic law.
The militant Muslim group Jamaat al-Muslimeen staged a bloody coup attempt in Trinidad last decade that involved the firebombing of police headquarters in Port-of-Spain. A rash of bombings over the past couple of years has been linked to the group, whose leader, Yasin Abu Bakr, recently was released from prison after claiming to be ill.
Local police had arrested him in 2005 after raiding his headquarters and seizing high-powered rifles, grenades, walkie-talkies and 700 rounds of ammo. He awaits trial for inciting religious violence and terrorism.
The number of Bakr's followers is said to be growing, along with the number of kidnappings, murders and bombings in Trinidad. And fears are growing within the Department of Homeland Security and FBI that Trinidadian jihadists could train and export terrorists to strike the U.S.
Trinidad might be harboring the "next Mohamed Atta," a college-educated, English-speaking Saudi native known within al-Qaida as "Jafar the pilot." His real name is Adnan El Shukrijumah, and the FBI considers him "armed and dangerous." He's been connected to al-Qaida plots to attack America with dirty bombs.
Local papers report that Shukrijumah has stayed with friends in Trinidad, and worshiped at local mosques, indicating a possible cell exists there. U.S. authorities at Miami International Airport are closely monitoring inbound flights from that area.
The FBI's Web site says Shukrijumah "carries a Guyanese passport but may attempt to enter the United States with a Trinidadian passport."
Shukrijumah's late father is Guyanese. He taught Arabic and lectured in mosques there and in Trinidad before moving to America to work for the Saudi Embassy and then run a small radical mosque in Florida (which was bankrolled by the former Saudi ambassador, according to Newsweek). Shukrijumah still has relatives in Guyana, which is near Trinidad.
FBI agents feared but never confirmed the three men accused of plotting to attack John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York were linked to one of the most wanted al Qaeda leaders, Adnan Shukrijumah, known to
have operated out of Guyana and Trinidad.
Officials tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com that they heard repeated references to "Adnan" during the extensive wiretaps conducted on the suspects' telephone conversations, including calls to Guyana and Trinidad.
There is a $5 million reward for information on Shukrijumah, who officials consider extremely dangerous because of the years he spent living in the Miami area and his known ties to al Qaeda. Some of the 9/ll hijackers attended a south Florida mosque run by Shukrijumah's now deceased father.

Shukrijumah, the FBI says he is "wanted in connection with possible terrorist threats against the United States". Local law enforcement officials said they were aware that Shukrijumah was or had been in Trinidad and confirmed they were contacted by the FBI for assistance in the matter.
The father Gulshair El-Shukrijumah (deceased) was the Iman at the Masjid Nur Ul-Islam 3324 Church Ave, Brooklyn NY 11203 for at least 5 years during the 1990's and the Iman at the Masjid Nur UL Islam Mosque in Trinidad during the mid 1980's.

UPDATE June 3rd 2:03 am: TERRORIST YASIN ABU BAKER TO GO ON TRIAL IN TRINIDAD ON JUNE 11TH 2007 The Guardian
JAMAAT al Muslimeen leader Yasin Abu Bakr is expected go on trial later this month on terrorism and sedition charges. Bakr has been charged with sedition, promoting a terrorist act and inciting others to breach the peace stemming from his November 2005 Eid sermon at his Mucurapo mosque.
Case facts:
- Bakr charged with sedition and terrorism.
- Trial to start with legal submissions.
Four men were charged today with scheming to blow up a jet fuel pipeline that serves Kennedy airport on Long Island. As usual, the would-be terrorists were arrested before the plan had advanced far enough to be dangerous.
The four men were Caribbean natives; one, named Abdul Kadir, was until recently a member of the Parliament in Guyana. Kadir "was arrested Friday as he was boarding a flight from Trinidad to Venezuela, where he planned to pick up a travel visa to attend an Islamic religious conference in Iran."
It's interesting, I think, that no one will find it anomalous that a man charged with plotting to blow up an airport and kill thousands of people was en route to a religious conference.
Via Power Line News.
SCOTT adds: Michael Ledeen comments on the Iranian subplot here via a commenter here. He writes:
Ah, those religious conferences organized by the Religion of Peace...and notice the route: Venezuela to Iran. Did you notice that there are now direct flights from Caracas to Teheran via Damascus? The jihadis' haj.
Don't forget:
Adnan Shukrijumah is one of your ties to both Trinidad and Guyana.
And don't forget this incident (I still remember it!); to explain how Trinidad is also home to Muslim radicals!

"Hey, guys - I think I found those bees you were looking for."
There are some 20,000 species of bees in the world, and many thousands more types of pollinating insects. What you're hearing about, "colony collapse disorder," affects one species of bee the European honey bee. [...] The "significant percentage" of failing hives is still a drop in the bucket when viewed against the global population of honey bees, and there are lots of beekeepers (even in the U.S., which appears hardest hit) who have not had, and may never have, significant losses of colonies. Plenty of honey bees remain to replace the ones that have died. It's not yet time to scream that the sky is falling.
And, oh boy - where have we heard this before?
Sixth, it's never a good idea to trust what the media are telling you. At least once in the present case the media got something completely wrong and created a huge mess: The story about cell phones was basically a misrepresentation of what one pair of reporters wrote about a study that they misinterpreted. In a nutshell, the original research didn't involve cell phones, and the researchers never said their research was related to honey bee colony die-offs. Even details like the alleged Einstein quote are dubious. No one has yet found proof that Einstein said anything about bees dying off the earliest documented appearance of the "quote" is 1994 and, yes, Albert was dead at the time.

Fred Thompson's stump speech, delivered in Richmond, Virginia, gets a pretty good review from the Washington Post. And a journalist who was there tells Glenn Reynolds that Thompson's speech was better than the Post report indicates.
Acording to the Post, Thompson received his biggest applause for blasting the immigration reform bill, which he called unworkable. Thompson stated, "We are a nation of compassion, a nation of immigrants, but this is our home . . . and we get to decide who comes into our home."
C-SPAN apparently will air the speech tonight at 6:30 and again at 9:30.
UPDATE: I just saw the replay, and it was an excellent speech. Thompson has a knack for stating conservative principles simply and with what seems like deep conviction. And, perhaps most importantly, he states them strongly but palatably. My wife, who is an independent, liked the speech as much as I did. She said Thompson seems like a different kind of candidate, a reaction that should be music to the ears of the Thompson camp.

"Bush's push on immigration tests his base," according to the New York Times. In a parenthetical update on National Review's challenge to the Wall Street Journal for a moderated debate on the proposed immigration bill, the Times reports that Journal editor Paul Gigot has rejected the NR challenge:
The Journal editorial page editor, Paul Gigot, dismissed the challenge, saying National Review writers had not accepted offers to appear on The Journals program on Fox to discuss the matter.
If that is in fact Gigot's reason for rejecting NR's challenge, it is an extraordinarily lame excuse.
Via Hugh Hewitt.
JOHN adds: To fully appreciate how lame it is for the Journal's editors to decline National Review's challenge, you have to see the video of the WSJ's editorial board discussing the immigration issue, accusing "the right," specifically National Review, of being irrational and "foaming at the mouth," and implicitly suggesting that NR's editors and other opponents of illegal immigration are racists. Here it is:
This comes from Power Line Video, where videos of the Journal's editorial board meetings are regularly posted, along with lots of other material, in the Dow Jones section. We played audio from this board meeting on our radio show yesterday.

For some unexplained reason the Washington Post ran an article listing some of the groups in the America Votes coalition.
Its not quite clear what the point of the Posts piece was supposed to be. (Maybe they didnt dare put it into words. Or, more likely, they were so overjoyed mere words could not express their rapture.)
In any case, its a good excuse for us to run a full list of all of the partners in America Votes, as they appear on their website:

Lawrence Solomon, Financial Post;
More than six months ago, I began writing this series, The Deniers. When I began, I accepted the prevailing view that scientists overwhelmingly believe that climate change threatens the planet. I doubted only claims that the dissenters were either kooks on the margins of science or sell-outs in the pockets of the oil companies. My series set out to profile the dissenters -- those who deny that the science is settled on climate change -- and to have their views heard. To demonstrate that dissent is credible, I chose high-ranking scientists at the world's premier scientific establishments. I considered stopping after writing six profiles, thinking I had made my point, but continued the series due to feedback from readers. I next planned to stop writing after 10 profiles, then 12, but the feedback increased. Now, after profiling more than 20 deniers, I do not know when I will stop -- the list of distinguished scientists who question the IPCC grows daily, as does the number of emails I receive, many from scientists who express gratitude for my series.
Of course, none of this is news unless you limit your media consumption to the rock hard stupid coverage provided by CTV[1][2] which - as much as it pains me to say this - is inferior to even the propoganda laden fare provided by the CBC.
Footnotes:
[1] CTV National News - "Canada's #1 source for Florida weather."
[2] David Akin - "Climate reporting for the under 7 set". Please, Mr. Akin - science is not your forte. Statements like "even if we reduced C02 levels to zero, temperatures would continue to rise for the next 100 years" (from an on-air report last month) are an insult to the intelligence of viewers - and raise serious questions about your own.
DOES THE DANGEROUS BOOK FOR BOYS MARK A CULTURAL MOMENT? Consider this piece from The New York Times:
I remember we called it play. It occurred on weekends and after school, when the grown-ups werent around. Sometimes it hurt. It hurt when the ball struck someone in the face. It hurt when the thing we were climbing the tree, the fire escape, the face of the sandstone cliff beside the river suddenly grew slippery or broke. But those were mere physical injuries. They healed, often after trips to the emergency room. The injuries that lingered were the emotional ones, incurred when someone came in last in one of the contests we dreamed up. And, being boys (girls were simply not part of our thinking), we made contests out of everything, from walking, balance-beam style, down the railroad tracks to collecting crawfish from the creek.
Who knew at the time (not we children, certainly, growing up more than 30 years ago in small-town Minnesota) that playing and getting hurt would come to be regarded later on as exotic, threatened activities sorely in need of a cultural revival led by concerned adults?
Read on and you'll find some pushback, along with what appears to be a bit of wilful misunderstanding, but that itself is more evidence for the cultural-moment theory. (As Chris Nolan emails: "The politically correct, multicultural 'it's all about nurture' set are getting defensive. Must be a cultural moment indeed.") And I think that he's got it all wrong. There's nothing contrived, or expert-driven, about saying "Go outside and play." It's what parents do. The real problem is that the kind of nannyism that leads to the criminalization of napping has gotten in the way.
UPDATE: More thoughts here.

Have you ever wondered why the left never screams bloody murder over the way muslims treat women, yet whines about the way Islamic terrorists are acting in Darfur? Ever wonder why the left never lodges the same complaints about the terrorists who massacre innocents in Iraq?A quick look at the deck and it all makes sense! A woman is worth 8 points and thus muslims outrank women on the victimhood scale. Clearly, complaints about muslim brutality towards women are unwarranted, since muslims are 4 points more valuable than women.
On the other hand, blacks outrank muslims by two and thus a military intervention to save Africans from muslim attacks in Darfur is not another imperilaist Western oil war, but is entirely justified in the leftist mind.
Finally, muslim attacks on innocent muslims in Iraq leaves us with the sum of zero since the muslims cancel out. Thus, the Iraq War has no value in the leftist mind and hence there are no complaints about terrorist attocities in connection with it.

but I did watch the Democratic presidential debate. No one looked presidential, except maybe Hillary Clinton. Barack Obama looked like he might one day be presidential. John Edwards looked ill-served by his hair stylist.
The point of the debate, I suppose, was for folks to make Clinton look bad on Iraq.
Edwards did catch one break, though. The "former hair salon owner" who asked a question from the audience inquired about the deficit, not where Edwards got that crappy cut.
So what??? If they come here in violation of our laws, they're simply criminals. All the tap-dancing around with semantics doesn't change that. Arrest them and deport them.

In what must be the most disturbing development in the planned Islamic attack on New York's JFK airport is at first, the stunning silence of the left. Pointed it out on Saturday here at LGF:

Nothing at Eschaton.

Update to: CAIR's Legal Tribulations
Federal prosecutors have named CAIR and two other Islamic organizations, the Islamic Society of North America and the North American Islamic Trust, as "unindicted co-conspirators" in a criminal conspiracy to support Hamas, a designated terrorist group.
In a filing last week, prosecutors described CAIR as a present or past member of "the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood's Palestine Committee and/or its organizations." They listed ISNA and NAIT as "entities who are and/or were members of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood." Josh Gerstein of The New York Sun reports that spokesmen for CAIR did not respond to requests for comment.
This development occurred in connection with the trial, scheduled to start on July 16 in Dallas, of five officials (Shukri Abu-Baker, Mohammad El-Mezain, Ghassan Elashi, Mufid Abdulqader, and Abdulraham Odeh) of the now-defunct Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, accused of sending funds to Hamas. This court filing listed some 300 individuals or organizations as co-conspirators.
What is an unindicted co-conspirator? Someone by and about whom hearsay is permissible in the courtroom. Here is a definition by legal journalist Stuart Taylor, discussing an entirely unrelated case:
The prosecutor is saying in essence in court that we believe this man was part of the criminal conspiracy, along with the people who are on trial. We haven't indicted him but the relevance of that for the purposes of the trial is that [it] lets them get in more evidence about the unindicted co-conspirator's out-of-court statements than they otherwise could. It's a way around the hearsay rule. For example, if they want one of their witnesses, to talk about what [a person] said to him, ordinarily that would be barred by the so-called hearsay rule. You can't testify in a trial about what somebody else said out of court. That rule has a lot of exceptions. One of the exceptions is if the person who you're trying to quote is named by the prosecution as an unindicted co-conspirator, then you can talk about what he said out of court.
Substitute "organization" for "man" and "person" and this description applies to the situation of CAIR, ISNA, and NAIT.
Comments: (1) CAIR being named as an unindicted co-conspirator complements the fact that many of its staff and associates are associated with terrorism, as I have documented.
(2) It is only logical that CAIR, whose origins lie in the Islamic Association for Palestine, which was founded by Hamas, be legally investigated in connection with Hamas.
(3) This may be the first time since 1994 that the press could not find a CAIR spokesman for a comment.
(4) If it turns out that there is substance to the CAIR-HLF connection, then CAIR will be caught out by the changed political and legal environment since 9/11. Put simply, Islamists can no longer get away with they could before then. (I elaborated this in a different context at "Nike and 9/11.")
(5) Whatever the future brings, this designation will hang as a permanent albatross around CAIR's collective neck.
A new survey of British Muslims by Channel 4 shows that nearly 60% believe that Muslims were not responsible for the 7/7 London bombingsand nearly a quarter believe the UK government was behind them. In the debate over health care, many people support the idea of a government-run, single-payor system that will supposedly guarantee equitable distribution of treatment. However, in granting government the authority to ration all medical care, we grant them the power to withhold it for whatever purpose they see fit. The British have begun to discover this dynamic, as the Daily Mail reports that the National Health Service will begin denying smokers access to medical care until they prove they have quit -- through a blood test.
At Heading Right, I note how this demonstrates the power we will grant government over the most personal of choices as a necessary end result. Where does it stop? Do we refuse service to the obese? To those who engage in sex without condoms? Every risk factor adds cost to the delivery of nationalized medical care, and at some point the single payor will start to act to reduce those costs and freeze out those higher-risk patients. Be sure to read the entire post.
Color me disenchanted. At the most critical juncture in American history, we had it all (the White House, Senate and House) and we squandered it on goodwill to snakes (Democraps) and savages (Islam.) There is no excuse for the utter abandonment of the Bush Doctrine or Bush's complete capitulation to neo State Arabist mentality. He has moved the bar so low that anyone one center or right of him is labeled a right wing extremist. There is no difference between him and the Dhimmicrats.
Caroline Glick in today's Jerusalem Post nails it; ECHOES OF 1919 Bush never completely matched his visionary rhetoric to his actual policies. And today, increasingly abandoned by his supporters and undermined by his own advisers who reject his vision and insist on returning to fantasyland, Bush has apparently abandoned his own doctrine of war and peace.

Tomorrow is the fortieth anniversary of the beginning of the Six Day War. Richard Chesnoff, writing in the Daily News, remembers:
I was one of the handful of foreign correspondents who reached the front during that monumentally brief battle. I was in Sinai on the first day, then returned north and managed to enter Gaza just as that benighted city was falling to Israel's largely civilian tank corps. Then it was on to Jerusalem.Like anyone who believes in the justice of Israel's existence, I was deeply relieved by its victory on June 10. I had heard the bloodthirsty Arab threats of a new Holocaust. I had seen the "Kill the Jews" posters in Gaza schools. I had seen the bunkers and mass graves that Israel had been forced to dig in expectation of invasion, if not defeat.
Yet, as we mark its 40th anniversary, it's become fashionable in some circles to rewrite the history of the Six-Day War. Radicals, so-called "humanitarians" and others who love to hate Israel now claim that what was essentially a war for survival was in fact just an excuse for Zionist imperialism. Even serious journals like Britain's The Economist say that while the war may have been necessary, it has ultimately proven "a calamity for the Jewish state."
We also got an email today from Hillel Zaremba of CAMERA (Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America) alerting us to a brand new web site, run by CAMERA: The Six-Day War. I've only had time to begin exploring the site, but it looks like a great introduction to the events of 1967 and their aftermath. Follow the link to explore The Six-Day War; here is what the front page looks like; click to enlarge:
My recollection of the Six Day War is that everyone I knew supported Israel and was gratified by its quick and overwhelming victory. This wasn't ethnic solidarity; I grew up in a town in South Dakota that had two Jewish families. Somehow there was a little more moral clarity then.
