By analogy think about the disease cystic fibrosis. Most of these people don't live to an age when they can reproduce - yet children with cystic fibrosis are still born at a pretty constant rate. That’s a goofy theory, there are definite genetic markers for CF, where are the homosexual markers?!! They seem to be conveniently missing when Hamer’s discredited study couldn’t be replicated.
For instance violent people (in prison) have been shown have similar genes. So since violence and antisocial behavior has a genetic compent, do we excuse it?
More goofy theory eh? Exactly where is the violence marker, next to the gay marker? There is NO credible evidence that any DNA (RFLP or PCR) markers specific to any gene responsible for behavior…NONE, ZIP, ZERO!!!
(1) I never said that there were definitely "gay genes"
per se, but rather that if there were, one would not see gays disappear if the population of carriers was large enough, similar to cystic fibrosis. (2) Just because a marker for a gene or genes has not been found yet doesn't mean it doesn't exist. All we can say about the genetics of gayness is it hasn't been shown definitely to be genetic. This doesn't mean it is not or that there are genetic componets. Since the level of the gay population as a percentage of the heterosexual appears to remain rather constant, this also speaks to a particular gene frequency. However, it still does not mean it exists (3) Many people with violent tendencies have a mutation in the gene that codes for the MAO-A enzyme. People with this mutation are much more likely to engage in dangerous, agreesive, and antisocial behavior.
My point was that just because something is tied to genetics, you don't get a "pass" because of it. We all still have a choice.
