I have visited this over the last 5 years on a daily basis and look to it as my main source of information, these days. My daughter is Leigh Nash lead singer for an incredibly successful, cutting-edge band that crossed over from Christian music to mainstream music. She is very conservative and the band has turned down some Democratic functions. They last played at the Gov. Rick Perry's (Texas) inaguration along with Robert Earl Keen and Clay Walker. Their music is very deep and spirtual based upon the works of C.S. Lewis, Thomas Merton, and occasionally a Socialist such as Pedro Neruda (forgive them please, for their naivate as they are all under 30). However, my daugher has many opportunities and is quite willing to express the conservative view point as she has been interviewed by David Letterman - where she changed the subject to a discussion of C.S. Lewis and the derivation of the name of the band. A simply incredible moment that I will never forget. The band has an huge fan base of people of various ilks, etc.; however, they also are targeted as are other "Christian bands" and even more so due to their high profile as having had a number one hit (Kiss Me)and a new album (44 out of 39 reviews on amazon.com are 5 stars)with unworldly lyrics that are so timely. From time to time, I would like to solicit your suggestions on certain topics with an effort to make the comments concise so that they can work for Leigh in her opportunities for sound bites, etc. The band was on Jay Leno a couple of months ago and will be on David Letterman this March.

Yes, a song about it "racing through my veins" and "the feeling that remains" is definitely about heroin.
Why a Christian conservative band would do the song is...actually the question is WHY would a Christian Conservative band do THAT song?
To: formershyfatboy
It's at their website. www.mtv.com
You don't have to watch MTV to see the information about the controversy.

See the last issue of Time Magazine or VH-1.com or many, many more reviews for their new record, Divine Discontent. You are very, very ill informed and in certain circled would be considered an IGNOGAMOUS.

tell me what sources you respect more than MTV and I will source you out a review of this album. Pick one of the following (keeping in mind that you respect it more than the vapid, Godless MTV): NY Times, CBS News, or CNN.
Tell me which onE.

Hey, chew on this: the new cover song on the new record, "Don't Believe Its Over" (Crowded House), was forced to be made by the president of Warner/Reprise. As it turns out, the song is an anti-war song. Look at the lyrics. Would you think it is an anti-war song? Who would have thought it?
Why would the CCM nominate the band for another Dove Award if the song was about heroin. Look at the post about the Bob Marley song. The public relations engine was working overtime for the LA's on this.

I dunno, is FR now in the business of being a PR outlet for someone's musical career? Evidently.
As well as giving flight to newbies' fantasies.

As well as giving flight to newbies' fantasies. Sure...and Mike Ness of Social Distortion is my...personal masseuse. I can say it all I want on FR, it doesn't mean it's true.

They sure don't need you to enhance their career. You all talk about what celebrities think, this and think that. Well my daughter is in a position to get the message out that she believes in - conservative and proud of it. As I said, she is not well educated in the history of some of these topics (i.e., abortion, Iraq, etc.). This was an opportunity that I perceived; however, maybe some of you pricks think differently. Those that do not - thanks.

Nor do I troll the MTV web site.

If your story is true, you might want to know that FReepers do not listen to Christian Rock only. A great many of us here are fans of metal, punk, techno, and straight up rock and roll.
To: formershyfatboy
Bob Marley did not write the song that your "daughter" covered. Look at the link. It's a completely different song. Dr. Zoo said so in his post.
The Las did the song, wrote the song.
Your "daughter" the so-called Christian conservative did the song, and it was how they broke into the business. It was their first *hit*.
BTW, did your daughter write "Kiss Me"??? My husband says it was ANOTHER UK band and that in the UK people think of the band as people who cover UK bands music but doesn't credit them.
Is this true..?
To: I_Love_My_Husband
Going to bed now regreting that I ever got on this subject. Way too much wine and don't want to say anthing I would regret. The only thing I can say is that if you are interested in this band, go to google and do a search. What you are saying is ridiculous as Rolling Stone Magazine pronouced their first CD, the Fatherless and the Widow, as one of the top 10 records of that year (1991?). Why were lawsuits not filed? Use you head before you engage your mouth. Become a little educated before you begin to smear people.
To: formershyfatboy
1991? According to MTV.com your daughter was 22 in 1998!
So she had a TOP TEN album in 1991??? When she was all of 15 years old?
And you call uneducated? A man who has spelled, in caps, IGNOGOMUS?
I'm sorry, but you are too funny!!! Anyways, have a good night. You should know though that there are some serious *B.S.* detectors here at freep.
Funny thing was, I *was* willing to believe you....then you started digging the hole further and further...
Anyways, it's been fun!
To: I_Love_My_Husband
From their official website:
it was actually in the late Nineties when they first burst onto the spotlight
Never underestimate FReepers to root out bs.
