Yeah, and folks are not on top of one another, like rats.
Alot of how you live is in attitude, and your surroundings have to have an effect on attitude.
In my mind, I am contrasting the life of an English peasant farmer living in a simple house with a thatched roof with the life of a 19th century London slum dweller.

I would take the English peasant farmer any day.
If I ever lost everything, I would move up into the woods... We have two types of homeless here, the survival folks, living in the state forests, and the street panhandlers, sleeping in doorways. The first almost seems romantic to me sometimes, when the wheels of industry and the iron hand of the modern world get me down!
