Sorry for my rant. CNN just reported, and showed, a hearse that they said held the remains of one of the astronauts legs.
How insensitive of them towards the families.

Hi guys. Ditto what a day. I am still numb.
I couldn't agree with you more, Darks. Coverage should show the Iraquis dancing in the streets.

Good evening guys - thanks for being here.
I'm beat after following the threads - pizza will be the chow of choice for this evening. The will to grill is just not here this evening.
Dammed politicians and government toadies should be very proud of their penny-pinching roll in this debacle...very proud indeed.

I still can't believe the news ghouls in this.
Well, yes I can.
The local paper sensationalised my step-daughter's death, so i can believe it of the larger newswhores.
(Cripes I hate self correction like that.)
Loddy, I know.. Jimmy Carter did his stupid dribble and teh orbiter became made of aluminum instead of titanium.
Then Nasa and Clinton both decided that a replacement wasn't needed all that soon.
Changed our minds tonight, watching a movie instead. More out of disgust at the newsies than out of actual wanting to see it.

My husband worked on the after-burners for the engines that are on the F-18's..and they are made out of Titanium. As and aside I masked them all before they were Shot-Peened, and they were very expensive, but well worth it.
They put Titanium on a fighter that has one or two people on them, but they couldn't take that expense to put on the shuttle? Something is wrong with that picture.. Very wrong.. Especiall for such a long life-span..
To: Darksheare
Please excuse my typo's.. I'm very tired.. and just getting ready to eat.. bbl
I think...
To: grannie9
It's crazy, but it's true. They made the shuttle out of aluminum, which begins to suffer damage at 300 degrees.
Al's drunken chicken show's what would happen to the shuttle once enough tiles come off.
The last aircraft made with titanium were the SR-71's.
Anything after that wasn't made entirely out of the stuff.
Like the afterburner nozzles on the Hornets.
Besides that, the entire construction of the orbiters was under Carter. I guess back then proper planning wasn't an issue.
And just think, we have one shuttle that's a Tarmac Queen and always was. (Enterprise) Don't worry about typos.
I'm beat too.

Hey Brent.. it's politics. Always has been always will be.. The hell with everything else..
I do agree with you about Al's drunken chickens.. It's a good thing he needed more quality control with the aircraft parts.. ;)
Good night sweeties.. I do have to hit the sack now.. Twenty lights and two doors, and pull down the bed, and I can cuddle and sleep..and dream better dreams..
To: grannie9
Well, the chicken at least were well covered in molten aluminum afterwards.
You're right, politics. As always. Garn, That burns me up.
Sleep well, and dream of brighter days.

You guys are in big trouble, how do you like this quote?
"It's definitely a cultural change to use foreign workers," says Sivaramakichenane Somasegar, Microsoft's vice-president for Windows engineering. "But if I can save a dollar, hallelujah."

I will try to find the link to a current monowheel adventure that ended badly for the inventor.
A much better day to everyone passing through the doorway.
