I think the key word here is "syndicated," meaning it's not a network show. Maher was network (forget which one) and so is Donahue (MSNBC). I frankly can't think of a syndicated talk show but that doesn't mean anything. I tend to stick pretty much to Fox.

Geeze, I only heard of 2 or 3 of those programs and I never watched any of them...and I have seven operating TVs in my house.

How does a syndicated show get cancelled? I guess if the show doesn't sell, the producers pull the plug. Right?

I think syndies have "packagers" and they're sold to whichever stations want them. Sometimes you'll see them on 2 or more stations within a market area. As for how they're cancelled, I'd guess (no recent experience) it happens when revenues fall off and it's no longer profitable to distribute them.

I think the choice of words in this particular article is very confusing, perhaps deliberately so to avoid lawsuits. If the purpose is to leave the reader guessing, it succeeds. Try as I may, I can't think of a single syndicated talk show.

Maybe it's a radio talk show?

I really don't care who it is.
