Word For The Day 12/24/02
12/24/02

Posted on 12/24/2002 12:35:35 AM PST by Bella_Bru

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Important teacher's notes:

There will be no school tomorrow. Class will resume on Thursday.

If you want to be on the WFTD Ping List, please let me know. I will be taking names all week and adding them to my new list. I scrapped the old list because of concerns raised on a thread about people be adding to lists without asking to be. Thank you for understanding.

And now for today's word....

jocund \JOCK-und; JOE-kund\, adjective:

Full of or expressing high-spirited merriment; light-hearted; pleasant, cheering, delightful

Etymology: Jocund is from Old French jocond, from Latin jucundus, pleasant, agreeable, delightful, from juvo, juvare, to please, to delight.

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

well it ain't making me a scrooge, but it has started irking me of late that xsteen does absolutely squat in the kitchen. if i ask her to, she will grudgingly oblige, and i know it is my fault for not having made her do stuff up to now. xsbrownie and xsboy show more aptitude and interest than she does and it bugs me. i don't care that she be interested in cooking, but she is definitely old enough to load a dishwasher. she will clean the table off, but the rest is up to me.

What? It was an innocent, innuendo-free answer. Perhaps you are just not used to those.

Headline Senator forms Third Party; Promises full agenda
By Line Ron Fournier; AP Correspondent
Body

Mississippi Senator Mohammed ibn al Africa-Mombassa formerly known as Trent Lott; Left the Republican party today, Following his recent Decision to step down as Majority Leader. Senator Africa-Mombassa announced that he is forming a third party with Al Sharpton dedicated to making Ebonics the official language of the United States.

Senator Africa-Mombassa denied that this was a cynical attempt to compensate for recent scandals, though he did say that he would continue on his world apology tour, with future concert dates in New York, paris, Durban, and Laos.

Wearing baggy pants, an "OJ was Framed" t-shirt, and the hair relaxer that has recently become his trademark, Senator Africa-Mombassa and his 'posse' approached the Senate floor around 11 A.M.

"Yo, Dog, I'd like to revise and extend my remarks" Senator Africa-Mombassa told the chair.

"Permission Granted, Senator Olympia Snowe, who was presiding replied, "though, following yesterdays session, the chair does feel compelled to remind the Senator that my name is Snowe, not 'Ho' "

" I am so sorry if my hip-hop performance yesterday caused anyone to take offense" Senator Africa-Mombassaresponded. "Once I get rhymin, I just don;t know whats goin to come out"

"Still if my comments caused pain to you or women in general, I would be happy to go on the Oxygen network for a full hour, or maybe Lifetime, or even The View. I'd just like the world to know that these remarks were an error of the head, not the heart. Not even the whole head. Just sort of the Front Part. In Fact just that part of the head over the right eyebrow, in front of the crown."

"So what I'm really saying is, if we had electored Lenora Fulani in the first place, we wouldn't have had all these troubles over the years"

Senator Africa-Mombassa then anounced his personal agenda for the year 2003. The Ebonics legislation is expected to to take up much of the winter.Senate debate over slavery reparations should stretch on till early spring, to be followed by the Senators bill to make Tupac Shakurs birthday a National Holiday.

The Senator Wishes you all A Happy Kwanzaa!

The Rats are not jocund about SML Frist.

From the article: "There is some real concern here, though, that he's a Mr. Clean type," says the Democratic Party operative.

What no FBI file? Too bad Demonrats.

More Homework of the Extra Credit nature.

There will be no jocund holiday seasons in Iraq and North Korea.

As the jocular jock Rumsfeld wasn't joking when he said "We could whup both your arses"
