12/24/02

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Important teacher's notes:
There will be no school tomorrow. Class will resume on Thursday.
If you want to be on the WFTD Ping List, please let me know. I will be taking names all week and adding them to my new list. I scrapped the old list because of concerns raised on a thread about people be adding to lists without asking to be. Thank you for understanding.
And now for today's word....
jocund \JOCK-und; JOE-kund\, adjective:
Full of or expressing high-spirited merriment; light-hearted; pleasant, cheering, delightful
Etymology: Jocund is from Old French jocond, from Latin jucundus, pleasant, agreeable, delightful, from juvo, juvare, to please, to delight.

Xshub needs a hunting dog with a drooling problem and huge feet. Or a rottweiler. They look good on attorneys.

i went to the grocery store at 7 am today, figuring it would be a nuthouse later. several people, including an indian gentleman who was the checker, wished me a Merry Christmas. It sounded so odd, in this day of PC to actually hear MERRY CHRISTMAS instead of the generic happy holidays. then i was thinking, well how did they know that i am someone that actually celebrates christmas. i pondered this, and then i saw my reflection in the window and remembered i have on a sweater with a santa claus on it!!

he pardons normal peopleBootleggers, postal thieves and dishonest used car salesmen? Puleeze.
Presidential pardons, IMHO, should be used only to correct an injustice, not forgive criminals. Pardon the guys who was jailed after a police officer lied on the stand. Pardon the sailor who was devastated by rape allegations by a lying, alcoholic politician. Pardon the guy who was convicted of murder bacause his attorney slept throughout the trial. /rant

the point wasn't that i forgot what i was wearing, it was that i was so dumbfounded to hear Merry Christmas from people in the service sector, 3 people in rapid succession, that i couldn't get over it.

Sadly, being out amongst the public this time of year, really rathcets up my misanthropic tendencies, to twice their usual level.

so what is your beef, scrooge? that the real spirit of christmas is lost on people? that may very well be, all we can do is be responsible for our own house and make sure that it is there. screw the rest of them ; )

Mine too. This time of year seems to bring the retards and wackos out. Or maybe they bug me more.
To: xsmommy
One of the things that's buggng me is not being able to get my new dishwasher installed until Thursday so I'll have to wash Christmas dishes by hand. Nevermind that there are able-bodied teenagers and young adults in the house, they're too lame to be trusted with china and crystal.
