In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Important teacher's notes:
There will be no school tomorrow. Class will resume on Thursday.
If you want to be on the WFTD Ping List, please let me know. I will be taking names all week and adding them to my new list. I scrapped the old list because of concerns raised on a thread about people be adding to lists without asking to be. Thank you for understanding.
And now for today's word....
jocund \JOCK-und; JOE-kund\, adjective:
Full of or expressing high-spirited merriment; light-hearted; pleasant, cheering, delightful
Etymology: Jocund is from Old French jocond, from Latin jucundus, pleasant, agreeable, delightful, from juvo, juvare, to please, to delight.
Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!
I'm a bit curious about what the male element of our little intellectual gathering thinks of this article. One quote in particular left me feeling particularly jocund:
"Men are like hunters with a rifle when they shop," Carman said. "They have in mind what they need, they find it and kill it."
My holiday feelings are, as usual, mixed. The good news is, I did all my shopping online this year, so I was able to avoid those crowded, pestilential malls that always leave me muttering, "Where's my AK-47?" The bad news is, I'm the only member of my family who has any rudimentary cooking skills whatsoever, so, as usual, all the holiday meal-fixing is resting solely on my notoriously erratic shoulders. Sometimes this works OK, sometimes not. It all depends on whether my relatives can keep me away from the cooking sherry before my work's complete.
In other words, pray for the Rose clan tomorrow, kids.
Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!
