Sun sells a version of Solaris which runs on PCs, you can order it from their website at www.sun.com. IIRC it costs $20 or $25. But, as Lil'freeper said, I wouldn't recommend it to someone not already familiar with some flavor of Unix.

I don't know squat about unix. But still, if I set it up on a spare HD it'll give me something to play with...you know...satisfy my inner geek. :)

Thanks for the info, Bear. Someday I'd like to set up a Unix box of some sort, just to goof around with. I've worked with Solaris before, but I don't know how to do much beyond the basic getting around sort of stuff...the sort of commands they'd teach you in Unix 101, I guess! Basic administration, but not much more.

Did not know that! Thanks for the info.

Played with Solaris in college- my dept. had a ton of Sun machines. We crunched star spectra with them. (Sun? Star? Solaris? Get it? *doofy geek laugh* ) I especially liked the multiple desktops (that one of the Linuxs ripped- can't remember which one...). Now I play on SGIs running Irix 6.something. I'm not an admin- and though our sys-dude keeps trying to recruit me, I never want to be. Just a data-crunching user who likes it when the machines work.
