Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

OMG, I'm shaking so much I can hardly type this...

I walked downtown at lunchtime (it's a beautiful spring day here, in the 60s, sun is shining). Down in front of the Federal Building, I was deeply moved by a site I never thought would affect me this way.

It was an anti-war protest. As I walked by I felt a surge of emotions (anger, pity, laughter, hysteria).... as I looked at the crowd...three old women, a lesbian, a geek and a Burl Ives wannabe!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

What a bunch of losers! I started to go ask 'em how many innocent Americans had to die to justify war with Iraq. But I hadn't been drinking, so it wouldn't have been a fair fight. In reality, they just weren't worth it.

Most people were ignoring them. The ones that noticed them were laughing.

Our local talk radio host pointed out that the NIMN (not in my name) people called for special church services today...gee how convenient that it's ASH WEDNESDAY!

Isn't it enough that we have to fight evil? Should we really have to fight stupidity as well?

I'm going to an emergency preparedness training tonight. Our talk radio station host (Michael Graham) put it together with the Red Cross. I'm gonna ask him to put together a rally like the type Glenn Beck is organizing.

Still can't talk but have had a blast typing messages to students using my screen projector.

This morning I gave them an assignment and then began with a running thread of my own political commentary on-screen.

Now, that's I've come to my office it sounds quite a bit like the discussion here.

YUM Ruthie. When I don't feel too good I tend to want steak and baked PO TA TOES. My dad did too. He always thought that was the food to get us on the road to recovery.

So, do ya'll think that's a good alternative to chicken soup? I tend to think the skiviless will like that.

It was interesting to get my students input this morning as I did my on-screen political commentary while they either did their work or participated in the conversation. I have 9 students this morning. 7 of them had things to say. All were in various forms of agreement with my line of discussion. Of the 2 who were not talking it was obvious they were uncomfortable with the topic. One doesn't seem to think coming to class is required. Has missed class for reasons like having to take her boyfriend to a concert. The other silent one has the lowest grade in the class.... reflecting the intelligence level.

So, Corin, I think your observations are on target even for this little classroom.

Yeah, animal protein, probably good. Actually my wife's homemade chx soup works good in that situation. + the chicken out of it make great chicken salad for later.

Maybe, but Richmond has its fair share of loonies. The three counties surrounding the city are arguably the most conservative/Republican in the state. In my County of Chesterfield we have one elected DemonRAT, a member of the Board of Supervisors. And he has to run to the right to be re-elected. Got his fanny kicked when he tried to run for the House of Delegates and lost to a Conservative Christian.

Until we lost the Governor's mansion in 2001, there was a period of time there that I was not represented by a single RAT from top to bottom. I wrote an article entitled "Is this Heaven?"
