The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

How can it be a band if they don't play instruments? These are 12-13 year old boys. Don't expect logic to be a major consideration here.
The other boys have the instruments. But Jr. has been in band for 2 1/2 years and at least knows how to play. The only other kid with talent is the guy that's gonna be the vocalist. He's actually pretty good.

You know, it's war. War is the most unpredictable thing. You can't forecast it... you can't predict it... you can only react to it.
I don't believe our military will make a balls up of Iraq. They have been planning and training a number of contingenicies... but... it's war. The Iraqis will shoot back, and they have some nasty stuff to shoot back with.
But this war is necessary. (That is my opinion only) It has to be fought if we are going to win the war on terror.
Do I worry? Yes... because I hate the fact that Americans are going to have to die for Saddam Hussein. To me, he's not worthy of one drop of America blood... yet, our soldiers will die so that we can live free.
I have confidence in the military. I know that they will win... but I know that the cost could be very steep. Yet, we already have 3,000 dead... and unless we want to see more, we have to take the battle to them.
This President will see it done. When he says that, I know he means it.
You can't do nothing... you have to fight.
Remember the lines from The Two Towers:
Theoden: I will not risk open war.
Aragorn: Open war is upon you. Whether you risk it or not.
And finally, Aragorn: "It is an army bred for one purpose. To destroy the world of men."
Now, that's fiction, but you can see great parallels with today's time.
Open war is upon us. Since about 1992... but, Clinton kicked the can down the road to be handled by another adminstration. That action came back to haunt us on 9/11.
And the Islamic Terrorists have one goal, one aim. To destroy the West. They will not stop until they accomplish that. You can't negotiate with them because they believe they have a mandate from allah. You can either surrender or fight.
You can take refuge at Helms Deep or you can ride out to meet them so to speak.
I am not a hawk... even though I sound like one... but en brera... we have no choice.
Hair... please excuse this Middle Eastern Rant...

Good morning one and all!
I went to the dentist's yesterday but he was running so far behind that I just rescheduled and left. I went home to play with the kiddies instead! :)
rugerman - Welcome! Come on in! I'll be serving some food momentarily, so be sure to grab a bite before heading out into the Wild. We're a pretty happy bunch here, so I know you'll feel at home in no time.
Sam - chimmichurri is so good on any kind of bread. I'm not picky when it comes to bread since I know I shouldn't even be eating it in the first place! LOL!! I can't believe you had venison and didn't invite me over!! *wink*
Hair - how you feeling today?
WN - sorry about the chicken soup! I hope you'll grab a steak this morning and that should be better. :)
2J - How are Pippin and Pepper? I haven't read any updates lately, so I'm not sure if I missed it. Oh, and by the way, LOL at the spider in the tub. I'm that way with cockroaches. Even little one get a good scream outta me. *shudder*
g'nad - Love your mental image of nekkid coffee sippin'! LOL!
OK, enough chit-chat - on to the grub!
I'm skipping the traditional breakfast for the most part and setting out T-bone steaks. I've fried up some eggs to go with them if you want to stick the morning meal theme. :)
Aside from that, mashed sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, collard greens, baked beans (not for the Dwarves!!), cole slaw, baked potatoes (lemme know if you want it loaded) and garden salad (pick your dressing). Plenty of soda, juice and coffee to drink and I'll need a hand from a Dwarf to get the keg from around back and get it tapped. ENJOY!!

Uh, I'll just have coffe and juice thanks, it is Ash Wednesday and I am fasting. 8^)

I like your rants, Carton, they are focused and bring clarity to the issues, IMO. I wish some of them could be published in mass media.

To: RMDupree
I completely forgot my dentist appointment last week, wonder how that happened.
Well, all that lovely virtual food has made my stomach growl in RL, think I may go find something to eat.

Carton just worries too much! It's that Smeagol/Gollum inner struggle thing...

About what?
To: carton253
please excuse this Middle Eastern Rant... No apologies necessary, IMHO. I agree with everything you said.
Everyone should pray for our soldiers, our President, his staff and all of their families as often as possible.
To: g'nad; RMDupree
I can give you a hand, Ruthy... I wasn't gonna offer until she said I could have some of the beans...

You are always apologizing for your rants. You don't have to. Rant all you want.
To: g'nad
I can give you a hand, Ruthy... Great! Two things though.
1. Please be sure to be wearing clothes and...
2. Bring 2 kegs, since tapping the first is such thirsty work you may just be tempted to keep one to yourself. :)
To: Corin Stormhands; RMDupree
I don't need 'em today... made bulgogi last nite... and blue cheese... and broccoli...
