Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

but I would draw the line at one who believes that Middle Earth actually existed at some point and that the Dark Lord Sauron could actually come back. Darn, there goes my chance
To: Sam Cree
Don't you just love to have people to give books to? I love getting books. My family, except for my dad, are not book people at all. I keep buying perfect books for relatives though... they just never read them.
Last year one of my favorite gifts that I received was a used book a friend had picked up for me. It was one of her long-time favorites and great. But, the best part was, since it was one of her long-time favorite books we had a lovely visit a couple of months back where we covered it in hilarious depth. What could be a better gift?

Wowza OT!
I haven't seen snow in years and it looks bitter cold in those pics. I can just make out a fuzzy line at the top of the "car escapes" image. Is that a hanging power line?
To: Wneighbor
Yeah, I think books are magical. I suppose most of us on this thread must think so. My brothers and I were brought up to love them.
Dad, for instance never went to college, but he was such an avid reader that, listening to him, you'd have thought he had a whole handful of degrees.
We have a couple of small walls of books in the house, they just give the whole place a warm feeling that nothing else can.
Way to go on R2D2.

That's a tough looking storm, Overtaxed. And yet, I believe that's quite a pretty spot you live in.
Are you anywhere near Krispy Kreme headquarters?
To: Sam Cree
Sam, it's definitely from the movie. :)
Although some of the lyrics were taken from various poems in the book.

Hehehe....I didn't even show you the trees leaning against the house or the wires pulled out of the electrical box.
To: All
oops! That was an accident!
To: RMDupree
Thanks.
Back later everyone.
To: Sam Cree
he he. First thing I did when I moved into my new house was unload a couple of boxes of books on to a shelf and plop my mattress on the floor. Spending the first night (alone) in a new house, in a new city but with an old favorite book made it more okay.
You know, R2D2 was good as a robot, but as a daughter's date???? That whole thing was wrong from the beginning anyway. She now refers to the guy as "the one who shall remain nameless."
To: RMDupree
Is that a hanging power line? It's a tree branch. The sagging powerline is behind the car over the street. :)
Officially we had 3/4 inches of freezing rain.
To: Overtaxed
That part sounds a little scary. I don't like that wire-out-of-the-electrical-box anywhere near some form of precipitation scenario.
To: HairOfTheDog
Ah! Forget that party and just stay here with us! ;)
Seriously though, if you don't think it will have any lasting reprecussions, just skip it this year. 2 hours is an awfully long drive for something you don't want to do.
To: Sam Cree
Are you anywhere near Krispy Kreme headquarters? Winston-Salem is about an hour and a half to two hours west of me.
Yeah, I like my wooded lot except when ice storms and hurricanes come through.
To: cpprfld
Darn, there goes my chanceLOL!!
To: Wneighbor
I think the power was already out in our neighborhood by the time the top of that maple fell on the lines going to the house. All the clocks were stopped at 12:45 but the trees in my yard were falling from 3:00 on.
To: Sam Cree
See ya later, Sam.
My boss ordered Bernard Goldberg's Bias for me for Christmas thru Amazon. It won't be here until the 28th or so though.
Books are the best gifts!
To: HairOfTheDog
What will I do? Ummmm....tell them your horses need you....they do, don't they?
To: Overtaxed
I cannot imagine having to manuever around power lines in icy conditions.
How frightening!
