Edwards should have been not merely penalized, but ejected (even if there was only one play left). The reciever was grounded and not resisting - all Edwards had to do was touch him with a hand - and there was no issue of it being a close thing (like with many roughing calls). ...And Sherman defended it after his Sapp comments: Jerk (and worse).

The guy trying to run the interception back for a touchdown after time had expired? That was at worst poor taste. Worth a grumble, but not even public mention.

The whistle hadn't blown. The play was still alive. The guy could have gotten up and run.

The refs admitted they "made a mistake" in not blowing the play dead.

Still & all, you're right, he could have just "touched" him down. But at least his infraction occurred DURING the game........umlike Kleinsasser's unprovoked attacak on Marcus Anderson, which started the whole brawl after the game.
